Started a new sawmill job today in Buncombe Co. NC today.  Sawing barn lumber to repair a 100 year old barn.  Sawing Red Oak, White Oak and White Pine.
Owner needed some wide Oak.  Sawed some 16" wide red oak for some of the siding on the barn.  Owner is trying to match existing lumber.

They were big oak logs, but yielded some beautiful lumber.  I'm tired, but have several more days to go.

Sounds like you had a good day.

There is just something about those W I D E boards that gets your attention.  I realize that yours was on the cut list, but even when folks don't really need them, it is hard to not keep a few.  A 16" -18" Red or White Oak board is a thing of beauty.   :)

That sounds like a neat project. I think we all would love to see some pictures of the barn and job, and best of luck to you in avoiding any nails in those monsters. I sawed a 33" white oak yesterday, and wouldn't you know it, some barbed wire history was in that thing. This time however, it was no surprise after the metal detector ringed off ;D
Dream as if you'll saw forever; saw as if you'll die today.
