Is there any good reason to modify a 084? Or is it best left to be a torque monster?

Yes, I have seen some VERY strong woods ported 084's.

I've owned 2 stock and 2 good woods ported 084.  No comparison if the woods port is done right by someone that knows what they are doing.

Lot of people try and copy this guys work. They bought his saws in the past and copy his numbers and info to a little book to port and sale now days :D.  Get hold of Dan Henry aka dozerdan.

I think this may be the 084 that you had. I built a few of those. Here I am testing one of them in yellow poplar. It almost pusher me out of the wood on the up cut.

That saw was nothing special, just one of my normal woods ported saws.

What are the mods & porting intended to do? Does it raise torque, speed, HP? Are there any mods geared toward milling?
