A few points to ponder; wonder how successful those snow motors were? Looks like a good concept. In the logging video, same forest management concepts and logging routines as today, just different equipment and fewer men used nowadays. Last, those lumberjacks looked mighty old. Or maybe they were all under 30 - hard work made'em look 70. ;D

THats preety cool! I coulda built one of those. I had a ford 2N sitting here for a while. I have seen the pistures down to Dysart's of those being used to cut wood here in Maine, and they looked really neat.
My Dad worked for the Bangor Daily News, I remember him reporting on the last river drive on the Machias river, in the '70's. You can still see 4' pulp wood on the bottom of a nearby lakes. I have dragged logs from rivers and sawn them, I used some in my Mill building. Cut with axes on the butts. A lot of Hemlock, Pine and Spruce.

There's usually a copy of "Natural Timber Country" on ebay and if you get a copy of that dvd, it will make your day. It's a one hour movie made by the National Archives and is one of the best I have ever seen on logging history, especially in the western states.
That was pretty cool , my father did a lot of that Maine log driving when he was younger . Grand lake flowage I believe he call it . It looks like it would have been fun .
Neat video. I bet the guy in the steam crane was envied (boiler right behind him, heating his trousers)
