More for 372 "Newbies" Cover some 365-372-372 x-torq trivia first and then video of swapping the 365 parts for 372xpw parts. Has a Huztl twist as a theme... first of two videos.
First 4 or 5 minutes a bit cluttered covering the difference between x-torqs and the first generations of that saw series....then gets to the meat of the conversion along with some notes relative to building these saws... again for the less experienced as the more experienced will just get bored...

Weimedog, I just watched your two videos posted above again. Thank you for taking the time to make them and post them here.
We picked up a 1996 365 this morning for a reasonable price. It starts up and runs well. I ruined the exhaust gasket when I pulled the muffler to inspect the cylinder and piston so I have to wait until the replacement arrives next week before we start cutting with it.
Were you using a Permatex product in stead of a base gasket? I guess I will have to keep reading to learn how to measure the "squish".
Any suggestions to wake up the 365 that are relatively easy to do and will not adversely affect its reliability? I can see daylight through the muffler that is on the saw but the exhaust exits out the top rather than the front like the aftermarket muffler on the 365/372 in the video.
Typically I will measure the squish by crushing soft solder. BUT 9 times out of 10 those old 365's end up be close to .040 with the base gasket. Usually I just trim .020 of the base of those cylinders with my lathe and end up between .018 and .022 squish with the base gasket in. If I do a "No Base Gasket Build", the ONLY product I feel comfortable with is Three Bond 1184. 1194 before that. In the 10 years I've used that stuff I have never had it fail. Ever. Of course proper cleaning of the surfaces is an absolute requirement. I have seen several saws come through my shop with other seals which have in fact failed. And I did for a short time try the Permatex Grey before going back to the Three Bond. I do not recommend ANY other sealer than the Three Bond 1184. Period....:)

Thanks for the tips. Hopefully this saw will run well for a lot longer. The guy I bought it from moved from Vermont, where he used it to cut six cords of firewood a year, into a subdivision north of Orlando. He did not need it anymore. If it does ever have top end problems we will probably add the bigger piston and cylinder.
