For the life of me, I can't figure out how to mark for a cut across a tapered round log. That's for a crosscut.

I can think of all kinds of jigs to do this, but all would take a ton of setup time.

In case I wasn't clear (as usual) I will be using some poles inside that are just debarked logs and need a square cut on each end.

Thanks!

Peter I may be missing this entirely. I lay the log down so I can use a level on the ends, snap chalk lines the entire length and then only use the line parts I need.

I used a piece of plastic strapping to go around the round piece and then traced a line.

Boy.....That makes me feel stupid (again).
It's so simple. Thanks Jim!

There are no stupid questions here on this forum.

Just questions that need answers.

If you've never seen it done then it is unknown.

Some are simple, once shown.........
