They're definitely heavy. I load a few trucks pulling crib trailers in the winter, the one is a 5 axle rig and it only weighs 26K empty. So it's hauling as much wood as our bigger, more expensive trucks.

26k is a featherweight.  My dead empty no tools or gear weight is in the mid 28s with an all aluminum flatbed. The avg OTR flat tares around 31-33k ready to stay out.

We're seeing more crib trailers down here.  They're left on the job, filled by a forwarder, and switched out for an empty.  They're producing jobs so fast that the trucks can't keep up.  The cribs move with the machines to the next job and the self loaders clean up.  One crew is kicking out 145 cords per day.
Crib trailer is just a normal 2 bunk log trailer right?  Pitts type, closed tandem?
TN/NC being dominated by knucklebooms makes it a trailer shuffle game.  Say youve got a crew that will load from 7am to 4pm.. And a 70 mile haul to a round the clock pulp mill.  Everything has to go right for you to get 2 loads a day with one trailer because of the knuckleboom window.  But with 2 trailers you can get 3 loads a day or 2 liesurely ones.  Lot of guys work one load in the morning, be home for the kids, have dinner then another load at night since the trailer is just staged in a field.

Good lord no.  Thats like two spread axles siamesed together.  I can smell the scrub radius from here!

I agree Mike- it would take a lot of horsepower just to turn one of those! Our cribs are set up the same, but with only 2 or 3 axles. With a rack front and rear, there are no tie downs required in MN

Id seen some of those crazy rigs in ohio, curtainside flats from canada. They couldnt really navigate a full truckstop because of all the axles and had to live opposite hours, sleep days.  If youve got two steers and 3 spreads on your trailer and arent getting over $4/mile something is wrong.

Wow! Some of you get to haul heavy weight.  Are these state and county roads?  85K with the permit here and probably not axled out so subject to a ticket.

Thought this was a reasonable example of a narrow roads, weak bridges nz small CTL truck, only a cummins x15 in the international prostar. (double work shifts to pay for it) A driver could hope they are most of the way over the span before the bridge collapses.

Well, scrap is in the toilet, OTR freight is horrible, fuel is up.  Why not crash the logging markets while we're at it right?
