After reading   Larry's post about finding part of an Osmose drill bit in a pole, I  wanted to add another - Some of  our poles done by Osmose also have a really strong insecticide called  Mitzifume,  they drill a larger hole about 5/8", 2 per pole, and insert 2 Aluminum cigar size tubes containing Mitzifume, then plug the hole. The stuff is supposed to drain into the pole within a few weeks, but has to leave a high concentration in the treated area. We've sawn the old tubes off, thin Aluminum, but it's the dust & chips that can't do you any good - The poles are marked with a small  round badge with the name Mitzifume on it. The ones i've seen are near the ground, worst decay area. We've been told here [CL&P] that all old poles are SUPPOSED to come back to the yard, reason being haz-mat, they all have creosote, CCA or penta in them,  they get cut up 4' long & go in  a dumpster. Not supposed to give hazardous stuff away anymore.
I was the smartest 16 year old I ever knew.
