Need help identifying???

   A while back while i worked at a pallet factory,  the guys on the PENDU where sawing up some 5/8 boards when the mill filled with the aroma of oregano. The wood has the grain of oak but has a green tint to it.  My first instinct was SASSAFRAS, then some one told me a "swamp" oak.
   Sorry i don't have any pics of it. I'll try to get some. Any information would be appreciated. Thanks

Camphor and Sassafras are the most odiferus around here

Swamp oak usually smells like bad cheese.  I think your sassafras is probably right, but I don't know about that greenish tint.  Black gum (tupelo) also has a definite smell and a greenish tint. 
Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large groups.
