Thanks for the kind words, everyone!  We're having a BLAST with Cami!  What a total character! She loves to be loved on and will do about anything for you if you'll scratch her. We've been been raising these for a long time and she's the most loveable one yet! But, she does have a temper (like her Dad), and isn't afraid to use it!!
RynSmith, we'll sell them...but most likely not until they're 2 years old and started driving. The World Clydesdale show is in 2015 in Canada, so they'll be about the right age for that. The last baby we took to the World, went 6th, so we're pretty excited to try to top that!
This is Lacy. She's the next one expecting...as you can see in the picture, it's pretty much any day. She can look so uncomfortable! Her baby gets to bouncing in there, and you can see her whole mid section bounce up and down! With all the movement of the baby, we figure it's most likely another filly.

I'll try to get some more pictures as we go along. If anyone's interested, you can look us up on Facebook at Hanson's Carriage and there will be pictures there as well.
Thanks again!

Thanks for the pics hardtailjohn.  I don't care what kind of animal it is, it tickles your insides first few times they bolt into a run.  They'll come to an often sudden stop, look around surprised like, "What just happened?"

I really like watching a colt it an open pasture.

When they finally get their feet under them and lined up to run!  :)

It's been years since I've been around horses .I can however attest to the fact  that the apple does not fall far from the tree in the mannerisms the foal exibits .Well ,what the hey people do the same thing ya know .

hardtailjohn

Well, it took a while, but I finally found out why Lacy was so wide!  We were blessed with the new boy, "Jethro" at about 12:45am on Tuesday! He's a monster!!! :o

Amazingly a relatively easy birth and both Mom and the boy are doing great! He needed a bit of help getting up the first time, as he's all legs, but he's got lots of "try" in him, and he figured out eating right away!
The next morning, he headed out the door to see the new "world".....it's got to feel good not to be all cramped up inside Mom, even if he is a bit wobbly!

It wasn't long and he was ready to "rock and roll"...but Mom had some last minute "Mom" stuff to do...

Once that was out of the way, it was "look out!"

Big sister, Cami isn't too impressed with him...she's jealous and wants to be the attention getter.... even if she is getting big.

My Lawd would you look at the legs on that colt .He gets full grown he could step right over a 5 foot fence .

Nice to have a new colt.

Is the right rear lower leg at the fetlock joint ok, and will strengthen in time? Or is it a characteristic of this breed to look that way as a newborn? Just curious. Hope it is not a criticism.

Beautiful animals both. They look like they could win a tug of war with a jeep as soon as their born.

Al_Smith

I'll tell you a little story about horse power or rather in this case pony power .

I used to pull farm tractors in pull offs .At one festival we followed a sanctioned pony pull .Just for giggles we hitched progressively larger tractors to a dead weight sled which was pulled by the winners of the pony pull .They weighed as a team under 1400 pounds .We had to get up to about 3500 pounds with a tractor to shake the sled loose .

I have no idea how much the 6 horse Budweiser triple team could pull but I'd bet more than the largest crawler tractor I own which is nearly 15,000 pounds .

Big horses and rather attractive"Budweiser " girls which is not all that bad if you stop and think about it . ;)

hardtailjohn

Beenthere, yes that's totally ok. A good Clyde baby will be down on it's pasterns for a few days. The long, angled pastern gives more "action" and snap to the foot when they're grown. I know exactly what you feel like...I saw my first one like that and thought oh wow.....
Al Smith, the Clydes don't really have the "heart" to pull hard. They're actually more apt to plant all 4 feet and stand still!  The way they're built is more for "action" and less for pulling hard, like a Percheron or Belgian does. I always tell the Perch and Belgian guys that the Clydes are too smart to pull hard. haha!  Still, they'll weigh a ton each when grown and will pull their own weight for a little ways if they have to.
Thanks for the compliments....we really enjoy the babies as well as the grown ones!
I'm so far behind, I think I'm ahead!

Al_Smith

Well that probabley explains why I haven't seen any Clydes on an Amish farm .

So what were they actually bred for ,carrying armored knights ?

yellowrosefarm

It's amazing how baby horses are literally "born to run". And, they are so darn comical. I worked on a farm that bred Irish sport horses for a year and loved it. I've got a Belgian mule now and would love to see what he could pull. He is 17.2 hands but doesn't have the dinner plate feet. We just trail ride him. I always kid my wife's friends when their horses balk at a stream crossing. " Move over and let a 4x4 go through". My wife has always dreamed of getting a Clyde/thoroughbred cross. I think Clydes and Shires are about the most beautiful horses there are.

Al_Smith

I forget what they mate for those giant mules .I think it might be a mammoth donkey jack and a Belgian mare .It might be a Clydesdale mare though because lot of them are light colored .Huge powerfull animals .

thecfarm

Beautiful animals. When watching the races I look forward to that Budweiser commerical. It's a nice story.

The Budweiser colt story was kind of touching .The most amusing was the episode with a sleigh ,a candle and a horse with gas . :D

RynSmith

He's all legs!  It's amazing how well their musculature is developed - born to run indeed.  :)

hardtailjohn

Al, yes some made it to be the horse of a Knight... of course there's debate about that too.. but they came from Scotland, and were bred for farming to begin with. With their size and the smaller fields over there, they can work just fine, albeit not as heavy loads as some of the other breeds. Their biggest use was in delivery, such as city delieveries of beer as well as other goods. Their high, snappy step and "presence" always impressed people, so they were a natural at advertising for a company.  They have very good tempraments as well. They almost became extinct at one point, and were on the "endangered" list for a time as well, prompting August Busch to donate breedings from his stallions to qualified mares, to help keep the breed alive.  We primarily use ours for carriage work, doing weddings and promotions, as well as some farm work to keep them sharp on their training.

A good friend of mine who is now a retired fireman had a perfectly matched team  of big geldings .He also had a restored steam powered horse drawn  fire pumping engine he pulled in parades .

Max was and is a good horseman and put on quite show with those big high steppers that would drive on command . He didn't have to rein them that much .There they went right down main street with smoke bellowing out of the steamer .

They were so well trained he could U-turn them just on voice command in either direction .This didn't happen over night ,it took years of patience Max had that Al doesn't . ;)They we not two aside but one after the other .

I do enjoy watching a well trained team do their thing .

I figured I'd shoot a little update here. We just got back from the Northwest Montana Fair, and took both babies this year, along with their Mom's and one other mare (so I could at least have a team to drive) The babies had a blast being visited by all those people, and were the hit of the fair!
We tied Cami (the filly) to her Mom's hame ring and she led along just like she'd been there all her life. Lots of noise and things moving all around her, and she never missed a move! I was so proud of her!! I had about 20 minutes to drive her before we headed through the crowd (and it was a tight fit!) and she just came right along, like she'd been doing it all along!
Here's a couple pics of her, all braided up in pink for the "Tough Enough To Wear Pink" night at the rodeo...

It had been a long week, and both kids were pretty happy to jump back in the trailer to come home.

When we got home, they were really glad, and Jethro let us know in no uncertain terms!

Once they got that out of their systems, they ran and played until dark.... just like I always say..it's good to go somewhere, but great to be home!

Tom, it was in Kalispell, MT. We were there from Wednesday through Sunday, and never got out of the barn before at least 11:30pm. A steady stream of people was the normal state, and once in a while it was virtually standing room only!
Thanks for the compliments everyone! They're alot of work, but alot of fun!

Great pictures and updates on the babies. :)
Our closest neighbor farmer has a pair of Belgian draft horses. Huge animals on four legs. They pull a wagon in the summer, and a sleigh on snow in the winter a couple miles down the dirt road by our property for exercise a few times weekly.
