Title: Need help identifying???
Post by: Straubies on April 08, 2005, 07:13:30 AM
A while back while i worked at a pallet factory,  the guys on the PENDU where sawing up some 5/8 boards when the mill filled with the aroma of oregano. The wood has the grain of oak but has a green tint to it.  My first instinct was SASSAFRAS, then some one told me a "swamp" oak.
Sorry i don't have any pics of it. I'll try to get some. Any information would be appreciated. Thanks

Swamp oak usually smells like bad cheese.  I think your sassafras is probably right, but I don't know about that greenish tint.  Black gum (tupelo) also has a definite smell and a greenish tint.
