Has anyone here ever built thier owne phase converter?

Here's some more links a member sent me while I was working on one. I've run my blower on a static type, with just capacitors providing the third leg, successfully. After reading these articles I made a rotary and it worked fine. When I get the time I want to try one pulling more horses. I got a clamp on ammeter at Lowes for about $80 and it was invaluable for balancing. Any electrician or maintenance buddies would probably have one too.
