Title: Wall Jacks, Painting Jacks?
Post by: bman on May 29, 2007, 11:05:45 AM
Have to replace the lap siding on the end of a friends house (25' wide, 12' tall) I want to set up some scaffold out of 2X lumber. I have seen this before but cant remember exactly how its done, I think it is refered to as "wall jacks". What I am envisioning is like a 2x4 riser with a short 2x4 horizontal piece nailed near the top which is then supported by a diagonal brace and then a wide platform board (2x12?) is nailed across two such riser units. Not sure how it's supposed to resist racking but it really can't be nailed into the new siding. Does this make sense? I know I've seen pics of this in old framing books. Anyone have a pic of what I am talking about?
Thanks bman

Usually when I've done what you're talking about it is attached to the building.  I've built 12' tall sawhorses with a crossbar wherever we needed a plank. If you know anyone with pump jacks, I'll screw them into a wood fascia or up under a shingle and patch the small holes.
