I have a question?  I recently heard people mention, wax then ends of the logs?  I build full scribe log homes and have never waxed the ends or sealed the ends?  whats the benefit?  I use EWP, they are very large and have some checking, but typical. I looking for people with experience and have first hand knowledge of sealing the ends of the logs?  Thanks for the help.
Not bad for a guy that got a 'C' in woodshop.

Welcome to the Forestry Forum.

Who was mentioning waxing ends of logs? Can you link to the thread on the forum?

Usually done to reduce end checking of log ends that is caused by shrinkage due to loss of moisture out the end grain.

Less loss when sawing the logs into lumber, from end trimming.

In house logs, may reduce decay creeping in to log ends, which is a problem.

We used to put end grain sealer when cutting half dovetail notch. Helped to prevent too rapid of drying at the newly cut ends.

My experience with logs is to apply a good quality finish after it is built. I assume you take this road?
