Anyone have leads on any upcoming framing classes in the northeast?  One or two day, intro to framing would be nice...

Nothing two day. Heartwood has a Mon.-Fri. course mid August. Sobon/Carlon is end of September Wed.-Sun.

Are you ready to build a set of horses? I could spend a sat or sun getting you started. You'll just have to wait until my truck will agree to brave CT DOT. :D

I just did one on Carlisle, MA a few weekends ago.

I will be doing more there, soon, but it will only be one day or one half day teaching how to layout and cut some curved brace stock for their middle bent.

I am planning on doing a workshop here at my sawmill yard teaching how to cut a bladed scarf joint.
I need to cut six for a set of post extensions for a frame.

I'm not sure when any of these will be happening.

Also, very soon, maybe 7/20/13 there will be a raising in Winthrop, MA. I will be leading a bunch of high school students to raise their frame, and will need extra help from anyone who wants to attend. You can come and just watch too.....
This frame is 14' x 24' and all joints are cut. Deck is built, bents four and three are together. We're suppose to put bents 2 and 1 together soon. Maybe even on the 6th.

Email me for specific details or addresses.

I just need help with measuring and layout procedures.  I can read and read but never really sinks in.  That would be awesome, dave.  Your trucks been within miles of my house, it got that bad?  :D

Ill look up those towns to see how far it is, jim.  Thanks.

Dave, just thinking.  If you come early on a sunday, i can bring you to that flea market.  You would have passed out a few weekends ago with the framing tools one guy had.

That sounds good, I'm in need of a few new tools, my other ones are getting lonely.  :D

After you see a couple of joints laid out I don't think you'll have any problem.

The raising I mentioned for the 20th of July has been postponed until Aug or September. I don't have an exact date yet.

Anything on the horizon?

Will be slowing down with work soon.

A day with layout and measuring would be great.

I am currently cutting out a 24' x 26' oak barn frame. The customer said he would do a workshop with these timbers at his yard when they are moved over there.

Don't know when that will be.

If you want some one on one, come up and we'll do a day here at my sawmill yard with the job I'm working on.

I need to get it done soon. If you come over it will be done sooner.

I'll email you. but you could just pick a day that isn't raining and let me know you'll be coming that day and we can plan on doing some timber framing.

Jim on average how long will it take you to cut the frame given it is oak? I am busy the next week or 2 but would
like to stop in for a day or at least part of one to get some work in, you may remember you met me at a class at
Fox Maple in June.

Jim_Rogers

I can't say for sure how long it will take. This is my first oak frame. It doesn't take long to cut the timbers. But you have to edge all the side lumber as well.

You can call me or email me and stop by anytime you want.
