Adding length to a tractor winch

Interesting to see if you could set up a winch like the boats have for fish line..  it only has 2 or 3 windings on the pulling spool..  then you could have a separate winding spool..  so your pull strength would always be the same.

Those rigs do look cool.

I planned on setting up my little crawler carrier (shown in picture) to pull logs, but never really really got it dialed in.  I have an improvised arch of sorts with a 9000# electric winch that plugs into the receiver hitch of either my skid steer or crawler carrier. I was hoping to mount the winch above the bed of the carrier. Then I bought a skidder and it suddenly seemed less important...



 

I did also get to play around pulling a few logs with a capstan winch this fall.  It is pretty slick in many ways, although a bit different than using the more powerful winches that I'm used to.
