Well, there is no party, but PatD makes several batches of this during the holidays.

It just a mixture of various Chex cereals, pretzels, nuts, a stick of margarine, plus the seasoning.  She then gives it a good oven toasting.

Lindy baked 3 pans full a few days ago. I finished off the last of it yesterday. She puts cashews in it for me,I don't eat peanuts.

Gotta remember.  We have a 2 year old Great Granddaughter that visits and sticks her hand in the bowl.  No pepper for her.   smiley_crying

SD, I just like peppers but in this case, yes, dried pepper flakes or powder.

I never really cared for spicey hot foods. The wife can not get it hot enough.  ;D
It's in the oven as we speak.

Our recipe has paprika - a nice mild pepper.

SwampDonkey

Doesn't have to be hot. The red pepper in these crackers I get sometimes is just dried red bell pepper. But just the same, I do have a Cajun mix that would be nice to dash over that party mix. mmm :)

MM, I cooked two batches myself yesterday.  I also include garlic powder, onion powder, assorted nuts, four cups roasted pecans, small pretzels and garlic/butter bagel chips to the orig. recipe.

I usually add 1/3 teaspoon ground red pepper per batch.  Franks red hot sauce is also very nice...  Add more if you feel like it.  Not too hot but you know it's there.

I have been keeping that empty nut can full and within easy reach of my recliner.  I need a larger nut can 'cause it won't stay full.   ;D

Lindy upgraded the mix today by adding some other stuff to it. She added some dried cranberries and a storebought mix by Cheese-its. Also added some more chex mix with extra seasoning and some roasted almonds and other stuff. I ate a big bowl of it. No wonder I stay so fat. :)

Here's the Cajun version that I always make. Can't keep it around long.

Pap

Chex Cajun Party Mix
One (1) box each:
Corn Chex, Rice Chex, Wheat Chex, Bran Chex, Crispits, Cherrio's, Thin pretzels, 2 cans of mixed nuts, also almonds and pecans as desired.
2 Tblsp-Tabasco, 2 Tblsp garlic salt, 2 Tblsp celery salt, 2 Tblsp onion salt, 3 Tblsp sesame seed, 2 Tblsp seasoning salt, 2 Tblsp chili powder, 1 Tblsp butter + 5 sticks butter, 1 Tblsp Whostershire Sauce.
Mix spices together. Melt butter, add Tabasco & Whostershire. Mix all cereals in a big garbage bag. While shaking the cereals in the garbage bag, slowly pour in the butter mix and keep shaking until all of the cereal is coated. Then slowly shake the dry seasoning mix until evenly coated. Then add the nuts and shake some more. Using large cookie sheets, pour mixture onto the pans and bake at 200 degrees for 2 hours, stirring as possible at one hour. Once dried and cooked, cool well and place in Ziplock bags for easy eating.

Good point. I use the cheap black 30 gallon bags, not the kitchen bags.
