Well, here is what the rug looks like without all the other mess involved. It's woven in 4 layers. All the perimeters of those color changes are stitched because layers have to exchange to get another solid color adjacent to another. The colors are the yarns I throw with the shuttle in each 'shed' and I repeat the same order of color: black, red, yellow green...repeat. I use 4 ski shuttles, 1 per color. If I made just a single block across the width (black), the colors would not move up or down in the layers and there would be no stitching. When I do that, I have to cross the yarns at the edges when I exit or enter the sheds. Each layer would be a solid color but no layers move up or down. However, with different blocks, by diving or climbing between layers it causes stitching. This also makes pockets. In the rug I have more than 4 blocks because even if a yellow is on the top in one spot, the 3 layers under it might be in different order in 1 or 2 others spot across the width. I try not to bring a top layer to the bottom or vise versa in an adjoining block because it effects the weft coverage. This would not be an issue if I used warp for color as well. But I'm weaving weft faced. The advantage of that is I can change all the weft colors to something else if I want and still get solid colors.  There is a lot of 'magic' involved to get what I want.  ffcool So far I have used a shed stick to open up the warp for the shuttle. I'm now doing things different so all I have to do is press a treadle and toss a shuttle through.

Yes, a huge project in itself. Plus I've added more hardware to it since, which can easily be removed and not effect the original setup. I keep coming up with ideas.  :uhoh:

Finished building another hunting blind. This one made to order for a customer on a budget, with pine board and batten siding. Will have the details in my "Chasing the Sawdust Dream" thread.

Well, I dug the lathe out to make my dust collection trough and finally, after a couple years of not messing with it, did some turning over the weekend. That is, until I turned too much and the platter thing I had on decided to be thinner than the gouge going through it. CHUNK! I got lucky because normally I wear a face shield but I've been using the shield while weedeating and it's pockmarked with all kinds of damage, so I wore it for a few minutes until I just couldn't see though it, so I took it off. Luckily, I was standing off to the side when the chunk flew off and it flew down rather than up at me...

It seems as though everything I attempt to make lately has failed.

I did, I guess, make a very tasty smoked turkey then another oven-baked turkey that turned out nice, for the holiday...

I'm making a skid! My FIL gave me a fuel tank for helping him move something, quite a deal because it was easy work, and he brought it over a couple weeks ago. I wanted to put it on a skid so I can move it to the driveway when it's time to fill. Unfortunately it didn't have holes to bolt the tank to a skid but I made some and that was easier than expected. Building the skid and lining the holes up, so I could bolt the tank down was less easy but it's done.

If you believe it (I kind of don't), I had a project in mind, I started it today, did it all, and completed it today! That doesn't happen much in my life. I guess I was off work today so that helps.

Finally got the legs finished for my work bench and got the top mounted. I broke down and bought pine 4"x4"s for the legs although I hated to. The only 4"x4"s that I have are either walnut or white oak and I may need them for something else. Now I plan to put a shelf on the bottom and get a wood vice of some sort mounted. I will eventually build some shelves on the wall and hopefully get all my woodworking tools all together where I can find them. I don't have a lot but what I have are scattered all over the place.

Good job.  I would highly recommend adding a nozzle that has the auto shutoff.  It is a game changer not having to be concerned about overfilling, just keep pumping until it shuts off.

I have a 50 gallon tank next  to the mill with a hand crank. works great, but as MM says, having that auto shutoff handle is very helpful. I can't watch the tank level when I am cranking. Seems like in the winter months I need two hands to crank. Of course, our pump is a little old and like almost everything else we have, came out of an old application in a swap or clean out job. ffcheesy

I like your positive attitude Howard! I hope you sell out everything you've got and take orders for more. Save on crate t put the money in.
I made a pivot table today to see if there are any surprises in what I am selling and where. No surprises, just confirmation of what I thought. Those little stools seem to be my most reliable seller. Nothing big, but they move regularly. My device stands sell more, but only bring in $6-8 a piece so not a lot of money.

I found out yesterday the lady in charge wants us to decorate for Christmas and they are giving an award for the best decoration. I don't have any decoration planned. If I had known I'd have gotten a Santa doll/figure and had him sitting on my composting toilet box with his pants around his ankles and reading a newspaper. Maybe I can find an Elf and have him sticking up or with his head out of a birdhouse.

The bad thing about tomorrow is we have to stay till 7:00 pm before we can come back and load up. Either that or carry it by hand and my stuff is too heavy and too far to haul for that. It is outdoor so I will have to dress warm

Why don't you put a Santa stocking cap on and sit out there on that compost toilet box ?? Put a some lighted charcoal briquets inside to add some amount of heat so you can sit there longer. Maybe you can sell a few as a bonus.  ffcool ffcool ffcheesy

Beenthere has a great idea, you can charge kids a buck to sit on your lap. Please do keeps your pants up though. ffcheesy Or maybe and Elf with his head sticking out of the toilet? Buy a box of tinsel and give it a good fling over your stuff.
I had to suppress my wife from decorating my shop for the open house next week. I have enough work to clean it up and don't need more junk to hang.

Yeah, other than being cool it looks to be a nice day for it. Also I can't load till after 8:00 pm so that is a couple hours after the sun sets and it will be cold then.

I wish you guys could come down too. Sometimes AmTrack runs specials from Charleston to here and back real cheap ($20 or so) for a day trip. I don't know if they still do that. If they do and you want to do that some time call and I'll meet you with my tour guide hat on.

How close are you to Am Trak? It's about an hr 15 minutes to the station. Our oldest foster daughter took it back to Massachusetts once coming home from break during college. Just to do it.  I would like to do take a couple long train rides.

Sorry back to the original topic.  I made a toilet paper holder out of a nubby slab and a deer antler. :wink_2:

I have never been on a train except once and it was the Cass scenic railroad which was a short trip on an old steam train. The Amtrak trip Howard was talking about follows the river into Hinton which takes you up the New River Gorge which part of is now a National Park. I'm sure it would be a very nice trip which I would love to do sometime.

Train trips up here across the country would cost a king's ransom. $6000 or more. I remember when a train ride from the boonies to Moncton, a 3 hr ride by car, cost $20 bucks. That was 40 years ago. And that was one engine and one car. They tore up all the track in the river valley where all the industry is and kept the train going down through woods and wilderness. Can't figure the economics there. They had mills, processing plants, gas/oil depots, and so on to get business from. How much business to they get from moose, spruce woods, and bogs?  ffcheesy ffcheesy
