Jeff

Earlier this year at the Forestry Forum Pig Roast, we were approached by numerous members who thought it would be a great idea to offer a subscription  to members who wished to use the forum without seeing the ads.

We have spent the last several months trying to devise an instant automated way for this to happen to no avail. But, this idea was so well presented by so many members, that we worked until we came up with an alternative route,

If you are one of those members who wish to utilize the Forestry Forum without the advertisements, what you need to do is send an email msg to:
forestryforumbilling@gmail.com

WITH:
Your full name,
Your user name on the forum,
A valid email address you wish to be invoiced or contacted at, and the length of time you would like to subscribe to the No Ad Forum option.

We are offering 6 months for $60, or a full year for $100. Tips appreciated

Once you do that, you will be sent an email with the invoice for your chosen length, that offers numerous ways for you to pay it online securely through Quickbooks. We will then swap you over to the No Ad theme for your requested length of time. When two weeks are remaining on your subscription we will send you a renewal invoice, so you have plenty of time to decide if you would like to renew.

NOTES:

Your Member group will be changed to Premium Subscription if subscribed.

You must be a member, and logged into the forum for the ads to be removed with the subscription.

We are unable to remove the ads individually for the Gallery, so it will still have ads when you utilize that.

Sponsors and Sponsor banners are not effected by this and will display as always.. They will continue to be the cornerstone of our economic survival and they are so appreciated.

If you have any questions please, feel free to ask them on this topic. I understand the ads have sucked as related to that question, so please, no need for reminders on that. ffsmiley

This is the 25th year for the Forestry Forum on line. Nearing a quarter century, but as Tammy and I age and decline, and the internet has changed, we have reached the point that we can no longer supplement the forum when we need to with out the ads, and the forum no longer can supplement us.  If you are not interested in this, there is nothing to do. It still costs nothing to be a member of the Forestry Forum.

As far as we have been able to tell, the ads have never slowed the loading of the forum, but im constantly after that company to make sure
. Other things were for sure, since we moved to the new server. It is a constant battle, but hopefully we are over those server misconfig issues.

Paid for my subscription seamlessly.

I'm happy to support the FF this way.   I couldn't tell you anything that was advertised anyway.  Much like other social media, I clicked through the ads as quickly as possible and pretty much ignored everything but the X to close.

Yep, easy peasey and it works great. I have an overloaded computer that is on the edge and it was getting clobbered with the ads. But (you can check on me) I never complained about the ads and I won't because that was what was needed. The problem was mine and I didn't see a point in sharing that. I will admit that stupid splash screen that covered everything and would not let me proceed was annoying. 99% of the time it was Amazon and I hate that company so it aggravated me a lot. But that was my problem.
I didn't get subscribed to avoid the ads, I got subscribed to support the forum and see it continue just as I have sent in contributions, no matter how small for the last several years. When you get value from something, you should give back for the value received. That's just the right thing to do.
Although (and it may just be coincidence right now) I am finding that things scream along for me now.

Wee! I need to read the rules to apply again but I'm in!

Not that it's a contest but I'll be in for 300 bucks this year! The value this site provides is definitely worth it all.

Thanks Jeff, it makes me very happy to see this option available, and that you listened to the folks that wanted to help, from the pig roast and elsewhere.

I hope this supplements your income quite a bit!

Good Morning Everyone!

I have just a small kindly reminder and request to everyone signing up. Please make sure to specify your email address you want used even if it is the email address you ussd to send the sign up email; along with your first and last name. Handling all these myself currently, if I have to go look up everyone's first and last name here on the forum greatly slows down my ability to get everyone signed up and switched over :)
Anyone who has requested the no ads yesterday evening and this morning, I'm on it right now and you'll have an email soon :)

Hope everyone is having an awesome day!

I don't know if it matters but I used a different email address than I thought I had registered. One is likely to aighead (the one that didn't take, originally, like a hundred years ago) and one to aigheadish.

On the email I sent I did not put the same email as I used to register with aigheadish... Still seeing ads but I assume it's because I used an email address thta was also registered with ff...

Can I suggest the title next to our handle is "Premium Subscriber" or can we come up with some other worthy title? "Forestry Forum Super User" or something "Woodchuck"... Or, not to add tons of work to Jeff and nohbody, but maybe custom titles as a thanks for supporting? May be a draw for dorks like me.

Remember the site not loading? taking forever to open a page, sending you to the site can not be reached page??

It's all gone for me now! wow. so not only do the adds disappear also the site gets a lot faster.

I know Jeff wrote somewhere that the adds have nothing to do with slowing down the site, well in my case it seems to made a huge difference

How do the other subscribers feel about that? i'm curious if it's just a lucky day

We made a major discovery on why the site has been so slow, not but a week or so, it was a misconfigured secure server certificate. There were also a couple other things. We had this ready to go but no way could we even mention it with the on going server issue.  The ads stopped being slow for me when That was dug up and corrected.

It is not hard to post a photo once you get a routine and learn how to do it.  It is consistent that new folks struggle.  I did too.  It is not intuitive (simple to figure out) but doable once you work at it for a bit.

I use the 2 tabs method for posting pictures as well. One with the gallery that I'll load anything to that I want to share, then I write a post and copy the middle link from the picture into when it's time. It's not perfect but the gallery does make possible some neat stuff, so it's worth it!

No, the stupid pop up ads that generally have nothing of interest (to me). For some reason, it felt like it knew I wanted to buy an SUV. On my phone, there would be a transparent area over the posts. When I would click to read a post, a new window would open with some garbage product.
