I thoughtbthere were a lot of people online when I logged on.  There must be a lot of folks with "wood fever"

The VW commercial with little Darth Vader is my favorite so far

BTW. - go packers

Little Darth Vader was funny and I liked the old western Bud commercial also.....but is general, most are stupid. Maybe the 2nd half will be better.

WoodMizer should have made a commercial with Little Darth Vader. :-)

What was worse then the half time show was the butchering of the national anthem. Lyrically and melodically.

What kind of fanatic's award do I get?  I was down doing maintenance and clean up at the mill?  I am ready for the morning.  I'll be cutting twenty foot 6x6 and 6x8 fir timbers.

Hope you all enjoyed the game.  I will probably survive having missed it.

I thought it was a pretty good game.  You wouldn't have changed it if you had watched, but I found it a lot more fun than shoveling sawdust.  :)

Sorry folks, I didn't watch the game but I've read in several threads how bad the national anthem was, who sang it?  My wifes PBR was on tonight, I didn't have a chance, I'd rather watch bullriding anyway ;)

There are plenty of AMERICAN singers who love and respect our Country, and could do a proper job of singing the song.  Why do they insist on using the moment to showcase some bozo like that? >:(

Trying to be an "entertainer" with our National Anthem is disrespectful to me.  It should be sung as written.  Period.

there maybe is even a few canadians that could have sang it better than her. :)

I am a really lousy fiddler but I like the song so much I taught myself how to play it.  I like my version more than hers.  I try to only play the notes of the song.  It's not that hard if I can do it.  I don't know the words but I can't see it being too hard to learn them.

Super Bowl? Ads?  Half time entertainment?  all greek to me... I was stringer batter boards and then starting on the footing trenches for my daughter's house- now THAT brings real satisfaction.... course, our TV doesn't work so good anyway; at least I don't think it does. :)

Why do they call them "Batter Boards?"
Title: Re: Super Bowl

maybe 'cause the keep the batter in the hole. Naw...... they're to mark where the batter goes.

When I tended mason in High School, A batter board was the board, sometimes a hand held board with a handle in the middle of the under side, that the mason used as a work service where he put his "batter" or mortar.

The best renditions of the national anthem always seem to me to be by a youngster with a clear voice. They sing it as it was written, no "personalizing", and everybody likes a youngster.

I think another definition of batter is "outward wall slope"  Batter boards were probably named so because they are placed to mark a building before excavation commences.  They are set a ways away from the building to allow for some sloping of the excavation wall and not be disturbed.  I am making some assumptions here

Nope that's just what they are corners for your string lines. Just wondered where the name came from.

I call that a mortar board, but then again, that what they call that funny looking hat that graduates wear.  I think the batter board was used elsewhere on me while I was in school.   :-\

I called a longtime home builder and he didn't know either.  Just that it was called a batter board.

Well it made sense to me that they would be called batter boards because they are placed in such a way to allow for batter (or inclination) of the excavation wall

Nah, I didn't work in the dark last night, just till dark, at which point I was so tired, dinner and bed was all that I could handle on the agenda... course, I get up pretty early, also....

Didn't even think about where "batter boards" came from, just use them to build houses... can't think of any other use for string holders like that, but in fact, can't think of any easier way to make sure your footings and foundation are square and flat- and that means a lot once you start putting up walls that can then be plumb and everyone's happy!

A square + B square = C square   (that will make for square...use that math and on flat ground you can square 4 corners on 4 2x2's)   ...Tim

I wished the Anthem was played at this game. The words used this time, along with whatever 'melody' that was, must be from something else. To open the game with that {entertainment} just seemed inappropriate as a replacement.

There has been a strong contingent that has wanted America the Beautiful as our national anthem for years.   It keeps getting slipped in there to train us.  That's how these agendas are accomplished.

The people who didn't like the way the National Anthem was sung, still have America the Beautiful ringing in their ears.  It works you know.  You got trained to accept higher gas prices.  How many people now think that $2 a gallon is a bargain?

I'm not talking conspiracy here, just fact.

Maybe the little girls video should be used as an example especially in this kind of setting.. If you cant do as good or better than her then forget it. The national anthem is special and should be sang as intended no matter who you are. bg

That little girl should have sang the opening. NO DOUBT. I had to go over to my buddies house to watch the game (he went somewhere else for a SB party, so just me and my 8 year old son), we gave up TV when everything went digital. We do have a DVD player, the kids do watch some Thomas the Tank, but the good news is they get bored of it and walk away after they have seen the same one so much. :D ;)

Even though I'm a diehard Steeler's fan, the clip on Green Bays coach made it a lot more tolerable. Love the little man that does well. Congrats all you cheeseheads, even if we did give it to you.   :D

I am a fan by proximity, and when this close to the Burgh the giant SUCKING noise pulls you in. It is so funny, I have seen 80+ year old ladies in bubushka's talking of their excitement on seeing spring training at St. Vincent (4 miles from me). AND guys randomly out on the street in front of their houses waving their "terrible towels" just for the #$%^ of it at passing traffic hoping someone will honk. It permeates the local society.

Glad it was Greenbay, their fans are equally fanatical, and personally, I thought they deserved it. I dont mind having the Stillers lose to them.
