Another year has gone by and it is time for our annual Christmas Contest! This year I'm calling it the Elf on a shelf contest. There are ten hidden elves. You may have to stray a bit from the Forestry Forum to find some of them, but most of them will be found quite readily by just looking around. I'm giving you all the tools and clues to find them in this post, so think and keep your eyes open! I'm hoping that this will get some of you to look around the forum and sponsors a bit and see what you discover rather than just heading for the whatcha sawing thread and no where else. :D I've made this contest so that you won't have to use the search function over and over to get your answers as that is very hard on the forum server.
What you do: Find the ten elves. Each elf has a letter and a number. The letter is to help form a word. The number tells you where that letter is in that word. Once you have the word, you use it to complete this address:
http://forestryforum.com/board/index.php?action=REPLACE WITH YOUR 10 letter WORD (all small letters no caps!)
When you successfully complete the address you will be taken to a success page where you will find a secret phrase and a link to submit that phrase and your entry. Prizes will be drawn sometime Christmas day from all the successful entries. Contest closes Midnight, my time, Christmas Eve.
Please make sure to thank the following for our prizes!
@thecfarm (http://forestryforum.com/board/index.php?action=profile;u=436) has donated a forestryforum hat of your choice. winner: @Wallydawg (https://forestryforum.com/board/index.php?action=profile;u=34955)
@doc henderson (http://forestryforum.com/board/index.php?action=profile;u=41041) has donated a Laser engraving. You will work out with him a photo and size. THEY ARE AWESOME! winner: @mroldstyle (https://forestryforum.com/board/index.php?action=profile;u=18799)
Logrite has donated a 48" Cant Hook or peavey winner: @davch00 (https://forestryforum.com/board/index.php?action=profile;u=11920)
Blue Creeper (https://bluecreeper.com) has donated a value pack and oil can winner: @stevegee58 (https://forestryforum.com/board/index.php?action=profile;u=46577)
Ritelegco (http://ritelegco.com/) has donated a set of 4 sexy single legs for your slab or table. winner: @jeeper9574 (https://forestryforum.com/board/index.php?action=profile;u=47295)
Thanks Kevin and Tammy!
So, hopefully I am not forgetting anything!
MERRY CHRISTMAS
Let the games begin! 8)
;D
oh what fun!
SO much for going to bed early tonight! :D I (we) had a lot of fun with this last year. This should be interesting. Thanks Jeff and Tammy.
Hmmm, tough. I only found 3, 6 & 7 so far...
Even tougher here. I only found #8 so far. Trouble is, I can't stop looking until I finish.
Need some help? Might help to keep searching. Even digging around in your tool box might help. Maybe even sawing on your woodmizer might help some. Maybe a check up with the Doc will not do any harm. Going to the farm will make you think straight.
Done!
Another fun one, Jeff. Easier this year. We should end up with a lot more contestants this year. You're going to need a bigger prize wheel.
:christmas: Jeff and Tammy and all the good members of the Forestry Forum.
I got all but one letter. I didn't have numbers on a couple of them. What I thought was the word from what I have didn't work
you guys are killing me, this is what happened last year. Not easy for me, I have no idea where you are looking. I got 4 letters, but only 2 with numbers. Arrgghhh!
Not sure why, but on my PC (using Chrome) some of the elves didn't show up both the number and letter correctly. On the iPad (using Chrome) everything was ok (using the full site). If you're having trouble with the letters or numbers it could be a similar issue. Don't know if it's a pc thing, or Chrome thing. Or maybe it's just Jeff messin' with us. Just FYI
I never found all the devishly hidden dwarfs, but after four letters I made a lucky guess.
Here's a big hint though: It's got nothing to do with grits! And there's far fewer of them down here than up there.
(Not much of hint really, but somewhat of a hint. Wouldn't want to spoil the fun.)
I think I'm probably using the right word then. Maybe I'm replacing it in the wrong place
It goes after the "=" sign. Everything that's after the equal sign needs be deleted. Only the mystery word goes after the equal sign.
OK, done. Thanks Jeff and your cohorts for another challenge. It was NOT easier than last year, but I am getting used to your 'odd quirks' a bit more and worked my way through it a little faster this year. Thank you for a fine contest and big thanks to all the prize sponsors. I think the contest is fun enough on it's own, but the prizes are a bonus. I enjoy listening to the chatter afterwards about the prizes and how they go to good homes that use and enjoy them.
At least I can get to bed at a reasonable hour tonight. Last year was a long one for me and I paid for it the next day. :D
Last year contest kept me busy for a while. A lot of a while. ;D A few hints was needed too.
Another great contest by Jeff. Thank you again. I struggled yesterday, but came in with a fresh mind this morning and got it pretty quick.
Merry Christmas to all and thank you to all the sponsors for some great prizes.
:christmas:
Merry Christmas to all
I actually saw one this morning before you announced the contest and I thought 'what in the world is that guy doing with that elf there'?
Good times.
Me too, Roxie!
That's one of the four I've found!
Not much luck with it this year!
Still jump in here and look around a little!
Maybe some of the elves haven't made an appearance yet.?????
Don't know, just wondering.
Ljohnsaw did find some numbers i didn't find. There must be some nooks and crannies I haven't located. (I did find two immunity idols though!)
Quote from: btulloh on December 11, 2019, 04:27:44 PMI did find two immunity idols though!
???
I'm up to 5 now, #s 3, 5, 6, 7 & 9.
It's interesting that you haven't found #8. That should be the easy one. Maybe the most useful too.
Edit: or maybe you did find it and you're calling it #7? That particular elf looks like 7 on my pc but is actually 8. There are some discrepancies when viewing elves on my pc in chrome, but no problem on the ipad. I wonder if anyone else is having issues?? @ljohnsaw (http://forestryforum.com/board/index.php?action=profile;u=20640)

It is absolutely clear on my PC the the Elf has a letter (lowercase vowel) on his knees and the number 7 to the lower left. Do you need a screwdriver or something to adjust your glasses for this one? ;)

That's always a good bet. :D :D
That's #7 you got there for sure.
Yes, we know the little elves do not display correcting in Chrome when you click on them. Switch to internet explorer or some other browser and you should see the proper number.
Yeah, I finally found #1 !!! Actually I was the 2nd member to successfully enter the contest, but my searching days will not be over until I find them all. :P
Me too, MM. Even though I'm entered, I still want to find the five elves I haven't located yet. I've been to every corner of the FF universe and still haven't found them. I did find those unpaired socks that went missing from Jeff's dryer though.
(The only reason I keep mentioning the chrome thing is to help anyone who might be having the same problem. )
Read every sentence in my launch post. Most have meaning.
Has anyone actually found all ten? It is certainly possible to make it without all. Depending on which ones you have.
I have two more to find; #4 and #10.
I found 7 of the tricky little elves and got entered but I'm still searching. Thanks to Jeff for doing this and the sponsors for making it possible, fun and neat prizes 8).
Well, I got to the You Made It! page, got the secret message, followed the Enter Now link and entered all the data. But, when I Send it, I get
NO data_order list SPECIFIED!
Is this a Firefox issue? I tried both typing in the secret message and doing a cut and paste.
:'(

Thanks. That"s where I was putting it. It finds the forum but not the done page
You are not spelling it correctly. It did the same thing to me. There are no numbers in the mystery word.
Currently we have a technical problem. I had purchases a SSL certificate to install on the server and had planned on putting it in action after the holidays. For some reason our server host installed it somehow where it is forcing things through it that should not be forced through it yet such as that cgi form that submits the context entries to me. I'm not sure what else is not working at the moment either. I'm surprised I can post.
Back in action!
I'm in the same situation as ljohnsaw! I solved it, and when I send it, I get NO data_order list SPECIFIED!
Refresh the page or delete your cached pages for the last day. If it does not say this at the top of the form page, its the old page
<h1> You MADE IT!! NEW IMPROVED PAGE!</h1>
I made it! Thanks Jeff and Tammy for setting this up.
Also, Merry Christmas to our Contest Sponsors Tammy and Kevin of Logrite Tools, Bluecreeper & Riteleg!
And Doc Henderson and Ray of thecfarm!
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!
That was awesome fun! The hardest part was finding the message on the enter now page. What an awesome message! Thanks Jeff for your twisted sense of fun. I will keep looking for all the elves. I have a few left to go.
Whew, it worked this time! :)
Finding some of the elves really made this one tough!
All in all, it was a fun contest!
Thanks and Merry Christmas to Jeff & Tammy, and all the sponsors, also thanks for the donations and participation of: Tammy and Kevin of Logrite, Bluecreeper and Riteleg, also Ray (thecfarm) and Doc Henderson!
Merry Christmas to all!
Well last night I figured out where #4 & #10 were but when I looked this morning......they weren't there. Can't trust dreams. :-\ Back to looking. ::)
Thanks to Jeff and Tammy Brokaw and to the Contest Sponsors Tammy and Kevin Bantle of Logrite Tools, Bluecreeper and Riteleg, Doc Henderson and Ray thecfarm!
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays everyone!
I thought I give some pretty good hints. I almost took the easy way out this year. I was going to just say you had to post a Christmas photo to get registered, but a topic got started about christmas cards and presents and it sort of stole the thunder on my idea (not complaining!) Clues are where you find them.
Jeff,
This is a good game thanks for making it!
You did a good job hiding all the keys, and thanks to all that makes this forum fun and enjoyable.
Merry Christmas to our Contest Sponsors Tammy and Kevin Bantle of Logrite Tools Bluecreeper and Riteleg! and don't forget Doc Henderson and Ray thecfarm
Yeah, I found #10 and it was exactly where it should have been !!! I got very close to it last night but I was one click away. :D
Now I only have #4 to find. :P
I have found all but numbers 1 and 10. Magicman, you will kick yourself for missing two hints for #4. As will I, I am sure, when I figure out #1 and #10.
Yeah X10 !!! I have found them all !!!! 8)
Another fun contest! Thanks to Jeff and all of the sponsors! Great job!
Thank You Jeff for The Forestry Forum and for your time well spent on this year's Christmas Contest.
Also Thank You Kevin & Tam-i-am for your Forestry Forum Sponsorship and providing the Logrite, Rite Leg, and Bluecreeper prizes. Thanks also go to Doc Henderson and Ray, thecfarm for their support and prizes.
I have only found 2,4,5,6,7,8,9. I did solve it,but I'm still a looking for the others.
Most happy you found #5 Ray! :D
:D
Finally got it, but still hunting elves. They are very elusive.
Thanks to Jeff and Tammy Brokaw and to the Contest Sponsors Tammy and Kevin Bantle of Logrite Tools, Bluecreeper and Riteleg. Also many thanks to Doc H and Ray for their generous donations.
Thanks Jeff and everyone else ,
You kept me busier than a one
armed paper hanger today :D
Man Jeff, you hid those elves well. There are 3 I cannot find, but like wheel of fortune, was able to fill in the blanks.
Thanks for another enjoyable puzzle hunt, and big thanks to the gift giving elves:
Kevin and Tammy at Logrite, Ritelegs, and blue creeper..
@doc henderson (http://forestryforum.com/board/index.php?action=profile;u=41041) who's laser art system fascinates me.
and Ray @thecfarm (http://forestryforum.com/board/index.php?action=profile;u=436)Who had the most obvious elf of all (man of many postings!).

This was another fun one that kept me busy! 8)
Thank you to all sponsors and to the forum members who continually provide valuable help to others on this forum which makes this forum leaps above others.
A special thanks to Jeff and Tammy Brokaw and to Tammy, Kevin, Doc H and Ray for their generous donations which make this little Christmas game even more fun.
Merry Christmas to all!
Today was my day to focus on the contest. Lucky Friday the 13th! I just completed the process.
Thank you Jeff (and wife Tammy) for your devotion and time to this forum, not to mention such fun contests. This alone is a great gift even without the wonderful prizes. I look forward to it each year.
Thank you Tammy and Kevin for your support of a great place to hang out. The sponsorship of Logrite, Bluecreeper and Riteleg is a great gift to all of us that enjoy this place. On top of that the prizes are wonderful!
Doc Henderson and Ray thanks to each of you for your contribution to the gifts under the tree. Y'all are very kind!
I wasn't able to find all the elfs, might be because of the tablet i'm using instead of my laptop. I did find enough of them to figure out the secret word though.
Thanks to Jeff and Tammy for putting the contest together and thanks to the sponsors, Doc and Ray for the great prizes.
Merry Christmas!!!!
:snowball:
I have managed to get entered but I'm still after some elusive elves namely #'s 1, 3 and 4! So the search continues :D
As with every year, I just love taking part :)
So a huge thanks to Jeff and Tammy for the forum :)
Kevin and Tammy @Logrite, @Ritelegs and @Bluecreeper for their sponsorship
and also Doc Henderson and thecfarm for their contributions

big thanks to Jeff and Tammy for this forum! I didn't get to participate last year so this is new to me.i have found some elves so far and have a list of stuff to go back and finish checking out. Wow there is so much information here. great job.
and a big thanks to everyone who donated prizes to make this possible.
I'm still a thinking and still have my eyes open. Some I can not found.
Really, cfarm? Jeff gave all the clues you need. Follow through on every word he said. What numbers are you looking for?
Not the best with riddles. :(
I know the answers are in his post.
1,3,10 I am still a looking for.
For 1, 3 & 10, they are all from the same people running 3 subsidiary businesses. The clue given by Jeff was 'sponsors' (along with some links). I would add 'major' or 'very generous' in front of that. ;)
Well I found 3 again. ::) I forgot to write that one down. :( Onto 1-10 now. Thanks for the hint. Almost there!!
The words are there so read what Jeff wrote. :P

Yep, close. One step at a time. You know, put your
correct leg out first and just creep up on it.
Just like you did with #3. ;D
How about a hint for #4? :snowfight1:

Did you get #9? You were really,
really close to #4 ;D
There is the last little elf #4.
I did not touch, but I have found all 10
:christmas: & :new_year:
That's awesome because at some point I may need help retrieving them!
Reminds me of my Granddaughter. She was up there in age,and wanted to "help" hide easter eggs. So I let her. There was some that she hide and the little ones could not find. So I asked her now you have to give out hints to find them. She looked at me and said,I have to remember where I hide them?? :D
I would like to give out some more hints, but I have to get busy with Chritmas cards and gifts for this year.

Thanks Jeff for the fun contest and the sponsors! I didn't quite get them all, but enough to figure it out.
Still time to enter!
DanG,them last two must be invisible. I just about wore out the leg website. :D And my fingers are turning blue too.
Nope, if you where you said that you were you would have found it...er both of them. Well, two different places but kinda the same. ;D ljohnsaw was spot on. :D
Made it
I feel like I have being told go stand in the corner in a Round Room ;D ;D
I went to web sites and finally persevered never did find 6 and 10 but the other letters gave me the word
Thanks for the challenge Jeff
Cheers
Al
#6 I found by searching. Can't seem to find it now. ???
Wow! That was fun on this rainy evening in East Tennessee. Thank you Jeff and Tammy!!! And a special thank you to Tammy, Kevin, Doc Henderson, and Ray!
Merry Christmas to all!!! :christmas:
Trying to find the elusive elves when sleep deprived made it even more challenging. Caught another one tonight which showed me that I had letters in the wrong places. Staring at what I had and all of a sudden the light went on. Just glad that it wasn't an oncoming train. :D Thanks Jeff for the fun and Kevin, Tammy, Doc H and Ray for the prizes.
:christmas:
YES! I finally found them all!! Whew, with time to spare no less!
Talk about looking around :D What's better, all the answers are in the first post!
Thanks again Jeff, Tammy, our awesome sponsors and forestry forum family.

Jeff,

JJ
Yes I know because others have been doing it to at the same time, and guess what. Yall have been overloading the server making it rougher on yourselves. That is what the seious lags have been the last couple days..
how many are in the "jar" to be picked from, or is that top secret? are people still working on the elfin clues and trying to get in on it? If we all bug you like a bunch of little kids at Christmas time, will it help? :snowball1:

Merry Christmas!
Thank you Jeff and Tammy for this great forum! Thank you Riteleg and all the other contributors and sponsors! 8)
This is my first post but I have been reading here for several years and recently joined. I do some woodworking, have a homemade wood splitter and am dreaming about a sawmill in my (hopefully not too distant) future. In the meantime I am learning a lot on this forum and enjoy following along on everyone's adventures.
Now I need to get working on a coffee table!
Thank you again!!
Congrats to all the winners . Loved the video of the drawing . Thank you to Jeff , Tammy , Harley , Sawyer , Doc , Ray , Kevin and Tam-I-am for making the contest possible . Merry Christmas to all !
Congrats to all winners (which includes all FF viewers/readers).
If you watch the video closely you may see Sawyer first grabbing my name and swallowing it. Not wanting to delay the contest waiting for him to pass it for confirmation Jeff decided to continue the drawing without it. (I'm just joking - I confess I never found all the elves. Well done to all who did. :D)
Elf locations were posted on the first post. :)
Nice pointer.
To all the lucky winners,we will need a picture of you and the prize!!
Thank you to all who supported the contest this year.
:christmas:
D
Congrats to the winners and thank you to all the sponsors!!!
It's funny I was on the BlueCreeper, Riteleg, and Logrite websites multiple times and never did see any elves. Using Chrome.
I have also never been able to login to the mobile website on my phone for 2 years now. I just get an error message. No problem on my PC. I used to be able to access FF on my iphone before that, but then all of a sudden it didn't work anymore.
Whoop Whoop!! I'm a winner!
Thanks to Jeff and Tammy and all the sponsors! and those that supplied gifts
Merry Christmas
Thanks again Jeff and Tammy for the contest! Also thanks to Logrite, Legrite and Blue Creeper for their great sponsorship. Cfarm and Doc H thank you for your prizes this year too.
I liked the Elf on the shelf contest as I did visit some of our sponsor sites and determined somethings I need to order!
Great fun every year! Thanks again.
Thanks to the cfarm too. I missed him earlier :-\
I can't believe you read my name as a winner!!! Thanks to all the sponsors who provided the prizes and for Jeff , Tammy and the team for the work creating the game. I really enjoyed searching for the elves. Thanks again, let me know what I need to do to collect prizes. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all.
That was kool having harley an sawyer do the pickin.
Thanks for the great elf hunt ! And a big thanks to the guys that sponsored the prizes .
I re-watched the video and it looks like the winner is @mroldstyle (https://forestryforum.com/board/index.php?action=profile;u=18799) not @OldStyle (https://forestryforum.com/board/index.php?action=profile;u=14649) sorry for the confusion. merry Christmas
Ill send out contact info as i can and post winners in the post. Dealing with some things today so asap.
Jeeper9574 the winner of the sexy single bench legs lives the next town over. He came for a visit to pick up his legs but went home with a cant hook instead. Dan got a tour of the shop and met Kevin, Lily and Peavey.

he also knows what a great family the Logrite family is. logrite_cool Congratulations!!
There's one lucky winner.
Thank you I certainly feel lucky! 8)
Thank you again Tammy and Kevin! It was great to meet you (and Lily and Peavey) and check out your shop. It's great to see such high quality tools and products made locally. The cant hook is awesome and I "cant" wait to put it to work! I will be back for some legs once my slabs dry and am looking forward to your open house in April.
