we turn our edger 1800 rpms. you probably need to soak those saws down with penetrating oil for a few days to free them up. the shanks look to be 2 1/2 pattern probably 10 gauge with 1/4 inch bits that seems to be a good combination for us.good luck looks like a good find

You say you run your edger at 1800 rpm. Where are u measuring the RPM at? I was trying to figure out today pulley size to hook up my thermoking diesel to it. With the pulleys that are on it and a PTO rpm of 540 the arbor is only spinng at at 810 rpm. That's not taking in account a 14 inch saw. Just cerrious what u mean by 1800/rpm

RPM is the arbor RPM.   The pulley that is on the edger may have been used with an electric motor.

Its interesting how many mill guys are around here in Michigan. Sadly I never see a soul at any of the half dozen or so in my area. Recently I missed out on a large Frick mill. Poor old folks got screwed out of there property and the contents and I couldnt buy anything.
Everyone has to be somewhere.

I got the edger up and going tonight. Put new v belts on it, greesed all the bearings, removed the one fixed blade, changed a few of the teeth. I have new bits for it but just wanted to see how things went first.
Pulling the arbor of to remove blade

Tensioning drive belts the easy way

The old John Deere hooked up and ready to go

I did cut a few boards with it just some junk popular boards laying in the fire wood pile. Seemed to cut straight and no problem with power. Pretty excited with its performance. I'm going to clean it up build a new outfeed table and paint it.

I can't see clearly, on the infeed side there is suppose to be a row of anti-kickback fingers hanging down. If they are not there, you will want to replace them. If the saws catches a knot it will throw the board thru you. If you need to know what they look like, let me know. I can draw a picture. You may not have but 1 in 200 to kick, but when one does, it sends it back where it came from fast. Just a note of caution.

The anti-kick fingers looked like this. They were staggered, every other one long and short.

It has them although a couple of them need some more penetrating oil

Good, just didn't want to see you get hurt. That works. The ones on our's were as I had drawn and went all the way across, but that was not necessary. Your's will solve the problem.
