Granite, sorry about the family and you getting sick. Families with school children are at risk at Christmas time.
I agree with you that it is nicer inside this morning than outside. The temp has just managed to get up to 8 degrees. I do want to fill the wood box in the garage while my wife's car is out so out I must go.

cutterboy,

I put off outside til around, 11.  I got my cord done, 2 cord delivered and emptied the log deck, thats a win!  I was soaked when I was done, at least 3 wet layers, guess I went overboard.  I should probably get 1 or 2 of those nice wicking shirts, probably not, nobody wants to see a dad body guy in a tight shirt!  Especially ME!

Warmed up and changed clothes, may just go a bang out a few more gifts before nap time!

I have a bunch of those wicking shirts.
They are the first thing that I put on then the layers go on after that for winter time.
I wear XL but summertime I wear a 3 XL in those shirts with no sleeves.

Don't be like me feeling a little better and all cooped up in the house then go out and do too much and have a relapse. Happens to easy.

Yes, you do have to be careful after being sick. But I find that the cool fresh air and some work to get the blood pumping helps to recover.
I remember when my younger brother was a teenager he had been feeling bad for three days and was whining to my father about it. Dad told him to go out and run a mile and he would feel better. He did go and run and he did feel much better.

ffcheesy ffcheesy gg, well there is that. Teens will certainly recover faster than us old dinosaurs. But Granite is a young guy and making firewood and farm work will keep him young.

I probably did a bit too much a bit too soon, Sunday early afternoon I was needing a bit of sit down time.  I knew that Monday at work would be pretty easy and that I'd be getting out early, that may have helped too.

My wife said I'm a pain in the butt when I'm sick, she may be right...

When I've been "for real" sick like a case of the flu, on several occasions I thought I was better so I proceeded to go engage in regular activities- only to end up back in bed as sick as I was before👎

My wife really dreads me falling ill, she sees it as another child to take care of🤦

Got another cord pumped out yesterday am.  Weather guessers were saying a late day/overnight snow storm and drastic drop in temp...for once, they were right!

Glad we got the cord done yesterday and the yard picked up.  I have to check the wind, but I might finally get to light off a bonefire pile, I did cover PART of it

Would be a good day to burn a big brush pile if you can get it started. I had several a few years ago and found that if I stuck a piece of large exhaust pipe in the pile and then blew in the pipe with a leaf blower they would go up in a blaze of glory.

Bill, it took me longer than I wanted, but now that we got snow cover I felt good about lighting off a pile.

After putting away my 2gal pail of mixed gas, diesel, waste oil I was glad to see it took off!

The pile is bigger than it looks, that old foundation that its in has got to be 4-5' deep.

Couple of hours later, and a few grapples of extra stuff too, and its mostly coals and big stuff.  It can keep cooking down while I do chores and bring wood into the basement.  I think I burnt up 5 of my old wood racks in that fire today

Man, it's almost like a real winter this year we aren't getting any BIG snoe storms, but we've got around 9-10in in the last couple weeks. Plenty of cold air to keep it around too.The 1-3in storms and all day flurries don't amount to much, but if it's gonna be cold, I want some snow too!

I guess I'll get a few more chapter's in my latest Tom Clancy book done, AFTER a good atv ride!

I think the ol' hockey puke processor is gonna have a little siesta.  I don't mind working in the snow, but my impending orders aren't a rush, and sometimes it ain't worth the extra effort of working in the snow

Yes, a little snow is ok. The ground is frozen and a couple inches of snow won't hinder the movement of the tractor in the woods, I have about 2" of snow in the woods. The problem is the cold! It was 2* this morning, too cold for me.

cutter,

I saw 1 at my 1am bladder relief!  Up to 5 degrees now.  We are in full house chore mode this am.  I'll bring i. a tractor bucket of wood before lunch (about a weeks worth) and re-stack it on the basement wood rack.  Ash can needs to be emptied onto the manure  / sawdust aka soil pile too.  I got 2, tractor trailer loads of logs last week, they did a great job shoe horning them into my landing, but I've got a bit to clean up there also.

Generator is gonna get a 10-15min exercise cause it's been a while. dump trailer need snow dumped out too.

But first a couple steaks out of deep freeze to thaw, then marinate!  I think I write checks, balance accounts before I go outside...even the birds look cold this am!

We are hoping to get into the 20's and do a good ATV ride later too, before another small snow storm.

I am waiting for the warm temps too!!!

I went out yesterday at somewhere around 20 to cut wood, and when darkness came onto me it was 10.

I spent yesterday morning plowing 6" of new snow. And shoveling the path to the wood shed which I knew I would need. Minus 16 this morning. Stayed in and tended the stove. Warmed up to 15 this afternoon. Went for a snowshoe cruise planning how to approach a maple stand thinning for firewood sized trees.

gg

Ray, the temp fell fast yesterday afternoon. I was splitting wood till 4pm and by then the cold was nose pinching.

Granite, how were those steaks tonight? Busy people need to eat hearty especially after working out in the cold.
Sometimes it seems like there are so many small odd jobs that need to be done that I can't get any real work done. I have enough of my own and my wife has plenty more for me.
I did get out to cut wood this afternoon on the edge of a field. I don't dare go into the woods because the ground is all ice. And now 2 to 4 inches of snow tonight then temps in the 40s tomorrow. Good grief! Just have to wait and see what the ground is like after tomorrow.

cutter,

steaks are gonna marinade til Mon.  I got the day off (4 day weeks for winter!) and will do a steak, some tips, and some sliced taters with onion and butter on the grill for an early dinner tomorrow!

I got most of my little jobs done. I forgot to empty the ash can, and never did switch the grapple back onto the tractor.  If I have truck problems, I can always plow my driveways with the tractor.

g_man,

I did so plowing on Sat am too!  I had other things to do, but spent a lot of time Sat and a little bit today reading.

Ray,

It was COLD when the wind picked up.  We did a 20mile jaunt yesterday, a lot of it on the lake.  When that wind kicked in, oh my!  I did some time in front of the woodstove after, just staring at the coals and thawing out!

We got weather coming later today. The weather guessers are getting everyone riled up (its kinda there thing now).  Anywhere from 2-8in of snow over the next day and a half, this is NH, that's not a dang blizzard!  They are predicting ice and sleet on the backside of the storm,  THAT can be a problem!  I'm heading out to push back snow bankings, make sure I'm full of fuel for tractor and plenty for the gen set, saws ready to go, grapple for tractor if I have to cut my way to the farm.  Gonna bring in a big bucket of wood to top off my basement racks too.  Unfortunately, I usually do grocery shopping in the evening on weekends.  We've had a lot of weekend storms and that brings all the idiots that listen to the weather guessers flying into the storms and emptying shelves.  These are the same brain-i-acs that will buy stuff that needs to be refrigerated, even though theres is a chance of ice and no power for a few days.  On second though, we should have plenty in the pantry, maybe I can avoid the store!  Hope to finish the RG LeTourneau book during the storm

I bagged groceries in a small town when I was in high school.
Could always tell when a snow storm was coming, people would come out and buy!!!
Even at that age I wondered why. I can only remember one storm that we got about 3 feet of snow.
I work at a parts store and we deal with a local bank.
The bank closed early one day because the storm was coming in the next day. The next day they opened late.
When I was growing up, everything was rear wheel drives and not many 4x trucks was around.
Now all wheels and 4X and front wheels drive are everywhere and we close up for snow!!!

Ray, same way here when I was a kid. The only people that had four wheel drive were the mailman and a fellow that worked for the gas company. Most people drove cars and they put chains on when the snow got deep. The worst was when the ground thawed out and ruts got deep.None of the roads going up the hollows were paved or graveled . Grader came in the spring and knocked the ruts down and we ate dust all summer. People today don't know how good they have it.

We got 5in of snow overnight, now its turned to sleet.  Could end up with .5-1in of this junk.  I got my driveways plowed right at the tail end of snow. With a bit of luck, the sleet, then maybe rain, MAYBE, will stay on top if the little bit of snow and I'll be able to peal it right up in the am.

I'm thinking that since it's super miserable out, it might be a good time to go grocery shopping. Nah, maybe after I read for a bit.

I don't have chains for anything, but probably should!  When I worked for the town, we had to chain up quiet a bit in storms like this when treating the dirt roads.

Bill, when I graded roads for the town, I figured out that the people that called and complained the most about the bumpy dirt roads were the same ones that, after grading, would be running 40-45mph over a 25mph road and trying there best to knock the good out of it!

Speaking of rwd cars, man I really would like to replace my god awful, terrible decision on my part, Subaru Impreza "awd" commuter rig with a fun rwd rig. Too bad its so hard to find an old 2wd Toyota truck or an even more fun early 80's Corolla rwd...ah, but I can wish
