Speaking of basswood.... a few weeks ago when I was logging white birch I happened to look up into a tall basswood tree. There out on a long skinny branch about 30 feet up was a big old porky (porcupine). He seemed to be chewing the branch. This confused me because I have only seen them eating in hemlock trees. When I got back to the house I googled porcupines. It seems they eat a lot of different things including the inner bark of hardwood trees. A few days ago I walked thru that same area and he was still there, but this time up in a pine tree.

Those things hit, fir, tamarack, spruce, sugar maple and yellow birch on my land, won't touch red maple, ash or white birch. Most of the damage I have is to my sugar maples. Neighbor cleared out an acre of tamarack and pushed the brush up into a pile on the edge of the woods. He had sugar maple around there and up along his line fence. Them porkies made home in that brush pile one winter and stripped the bark off his sugar maples that he taps for syrup every spring. I told him, that pile of brush will invite the porkies.  ffcheesy

WV- you can forget subreddit as soon as you hear it. Reddit is mostly a garbage pile of fairly rotten human beings who don't seem like they have a grasp of reality. That being said, if you are tightly controlling of the subreddits you belong to, and don't stray ever, there are some interesting things to see and learn about.

Dadgumit! Now that I know even more about Reddits I've forgotten even more previously learned and remembered facts and trivia. There just ain't no way for me to win.

And rubber tires, especially on trailer sitting for awhile back in the bush to go hunting out of. I've had then chew the white wall (band) of pickup tires. Must be porky chewing gum. ffcheesy Oh, and they will chew up plywood or oriented strand board to.  ffcheesy
