Water Content of Green Timber

My buddy and I stayed at camp an extra day this weekend to cut up some downed timber and fill the woodshed.  We were discussing green timber, water content, drying time, etc.  It is fair to say that, on average, most green timber (oak, maple, cherry) has about 40% water content?  Any feedback from the forum is much appreciated.  Thanks!

And just for grins, an example to help think about what mc means. In some trees moisture content green can be over 200%   :o

or, twice the weight of oven dry  :)

red oak runs over 100% moisture content here consistently

my pine will lose 1/4 of its weight in one month in the summer.
