That track won't flex now. A member made an extension for the head to go on. Not to saw on,but just to get the head out of the way when taking the lumber off.

Congrats on the new mill, my fellow Midwesterner, and welcome to the Forestry Forum!  And, yes, hasn't it been a cold and snowy winter already!  (about 8" on the ground here).  You might have to wait until spring!

I am having trouble seeing the push bar set up. Could you shot another picture and show the bottom of that. Did you add another up right post?

Jimmy Mc

I added two uprights and a cross bar. Cut the push bar and throttle control off the round post and put it on the new rear upright.

Yesterday I sawed my first logs on the mill. Forgot to take pictures. Some of the things I learned on my first day at the mill. There is more to making lumber then loading a log on a mill and sawing. A band that is too loose will not cut  flat, and a band to tight will not cut flat. If you want to change a band just lightly touch the log clamp with it. Then you have a reason to change bands like it or not. Fresh cut Maple smells better than Ash. The most important thing I learned is if you start up a new mill in your driveway, every male that drives by will stop to help. I didn't have to move one piece of lumber, or slab. They all wanted to take a turn at the push bar. And after just two logs we are all master sawyers, in our own minds.
I is hard to believe 8 grown men can have so much fun doing something that none of us had any idea what we were doing. We made a pass, made jokes, made an adjustment, and repeated, time after time.  The first log was the ash, we trashed it. The Maple we got some good lumber out of. 1X6, 2X6, and one slab 2 1/2 inches thick, the maple had curle and one of the guys is going to make a gun stock or two out of it.

Big fun

The log clamp syndrome. Now you are a sawyer.  :D  By the way everytime you try to saw the mill in two,it will never be with a blade that you was just about to throw away. Glad you like sawing. Most of us do too.  ;D

Jimmy Mc,    I know what you mean about "hands" showing up at sawing time. I had the same thing at my place for a full week. Enjoy the mill, and the help. It's the only way to saw!     Andy

Congrats on the First Log.   smiley_thumbsup

Setting up along a busy roadway will also generate sawing jobs.   ;D
