I need some Idea's or How to Information to Sharpen a Circular Saw Blade with Tungsten Carbide Teeth.

I have these three types -- Norwood Bandsaw Blade,  Oregon (knock off) Chainsaw and HF Blade Sharpener that goes up to 18 inches (I'm 22 inches) .

I had over $ 40K of my stuff stolen in Sep., 2010; my jockey grinder & blade jig is gone. I just hit some metal (one nail) yesterday and will saw but not cutting (wonder why) :( that good.

The (1) nail did not damage the teeth that much. Just a good touch up... should get me sawing again. I just bought a lot of diamond disks and 4 inch diamond wheel's that will mount up to my different sharpener's.  To replace what was stolen is over $ 500.00.  I'm trying to made do... with what I own already.

The Hook &  Rake angle is 35 deg. and Back Clearance is 10 degrees.

My Question is -- has anyone touched up Tungsten Carbide teeth with a high speed grinder and/ or (used) diamond disk wheels ?

Have you made up little jigs or (just) free handed the touch up of Tungsten Carbide Teeth ?

Remember...  my Teeth are just Nicked and not Wrecked, just a touch up should work.

Thank You,

Avery

I use a Dremel and a small diamond disk on high speed. Once I figured this out I went around and sharpened all the carbides in the shop. Use a magnifier and there isn't much to it.

Mr. Log Walker

I was looking to hear some feed back like this. Do you use one of this lights & mag. glass gaget's as you work ?
My eyes are fair and I need a good light to see & glass's on to do (teeth sharpening) fine work. I was going to buy (mag. & light) one today and then forgot.
.
Thank You,

I use the magnifiers that go on a head band. They flip up and down to use. I have a pair of my reading glasses under them. Just lightly dress each tooth face. The diamond disc have no problem dressing the carbides. Sure beats sending them off to the shop. I can't tell the difference when cutting.

Give it a try. Joe

Avery It can be  done w/o too many dramas Like Joe and Carl have both said and I have done it for years when I have been in a bind to get a saw sharpened as I have afew diamond wheels in the shed  I also knocked a sharpener up for the table top mill using the head unit of the bandsaw sharpener which worked well for years  ;) You just need a good eye and a steady she'll be rite Mate  ;) ;D ;D 8)

Its not good to hear of your gear getting knocked off I feel your pain i have had it happen to me too in the past Mate  :o :) ??? :( >:( >:(

i prefer not to do anything when it comes to my saw blades freehand. it needs to be accurate and the only way to get it accurate is use a jig.

i didnt get a pic when i was over at the mill yesterday, but ill take a pic next time im there, its verry simple just a bit of ply and an electric motor.

Yep, I'm Going to Give it a Try in a few days. I'm going to buy one of those head gear mag. glasses to wear.  I'll be my own saw doc. when I have that gismo on me head  :D.  My hand is a little shakey these days and I might drink a 1/2 bottle of Canadian Club before the job to settle me down. I'll finish off the rest of the bottle if the job comes out right (little jok'ee  :D).

2nd thought, if the job (blade sharpening) Don't Come Out Right.. I'll finish that 1st bottle off and start on the 2nd bottle  8) (another little jok'ee).

I use to do a lot of 2 fisted drinking in the Army, I'd drink a fifth of wiskey in a couple hours. If I tried to drink over a half a bottle today.. it would wreck me (No jok'ee)  :-[.
