anybody else out there having problems with their .050 double hard blades flex life? last few boxes I've only been getting  3 sharpenings and last box i had two blades that still retained a curve when they broke. that is they wouldn't lay flat.

.50 is not going to last as long as .42.  Would be  if some running .50 would report on their blade life.  Steve

I run .55  and get 5 or 6 + sharpening. In fact, I sharpen till the hard on the tip is gone.
then save them to cut nail wood.
I tighten the blade till I can't turn it anymore.

How many sharpenings you get out of a blade is not a legitimate gauge without knowing how dull you allow them to get.  The more dull the less life.  Also as has been mentioned, thickness affects blade life.

You also have to consider how blade performance impacts your production and lumber quality as part of the total cost equation.  If you are getting more deflection (due to band thickness not blade sharpness) or sawing slower due to conditions and band thickness is the limiting factor then do the additional sharpenings really pay off financially?
