Sad day at DblTreeBelgians Farm.
Jill went out this morning to do chores and found our lead
Belgian draft horse had died in his stall.
He had went down and apparently couldn't get his feet under
him to get back up. This has happened several times in the last
year but we've always got him back up. Never been able to pinpoint
what the problem was and the vet couldn't either.
Best we can figure is age yet he was 20. He did have some issues
with both right feet lately so he may have laid down to ease up
on them.
Not real sure but one thing is for sure, he will be sadly missed.
RIP Jed

Thanks everyone. He was a good all around draft. Jill showed him in ladies cart. My daughter showed him single and team all through 4H and I showed him and Jake and they got me a grand champion trophy in farm class in 2011.
After the daughter finished 4H they both pretty much became pasture ornaments but we would hitch them every now and then just to keep them in the bit.
Jake is having a rough time. Separation anxiety. Can't find his buddy. Gonna be tough on him for a while.
Thanks again everyone for the nice comments. Greatly appreciated.

I've always loved Belgians. Mighty handsome animals. Sorry for your loss.

Sorry to hear this.  They are such social animals I know Jake will have a rough go.

Sorry to hear it. My horse is half Belgian and as near as I can calculate he is 27 y/o and our little mule is 25. He seems to be in good health. If he dies before the mule I will have to buy something else as the mule goes crazy without him. My 29 month old grandson was up this weekend and had fun feeding him apple slices till he he reached over the fence and licked the top of his head and startled him.

I'm sorry to hear about your horse. We can become very attached to them. My old fella is pushing 35 and I expect to find him down every day but the stubborn old sh88head just keeps on going. I know I should help him on out but I just can't bring myself to do it. I've had since he was born.

Just heard from Lindy that my old boy has gone to greener pastures. My heart is broken.
