Today we ordered the pig and the port-a-potties (MEN'S and LADY'S!) so that means it is time to start getting a count for the pigroast. :)
You are not required to rsvp to attend, but we sure would appreciate it if you think there is a good chance you are coming to add your number of attendees to our count. This gives us a good idea on what to expect and also gives incentive to others to come. You can always retract if you need to, but you won't ;) :).

There are a handful that turn up on those google maps that we will strongly advise against. There are plenty of very good places to stay.
Please continue the count in your post. :)
Jeff, Wildflower, Stacy, Jeremy, Seester Leeenda, Tammy's mom and Gene make
7
Count me an da wife in. 9
Fat Olde Elf makes 10, I think..........I am still fat but 20 pounds lighter.....
PatD and I plan to make it 12.
I can honestly say, we wanna come but we can't make it this year.
But I will send some friends Jeff. :)
Joyce and I have been talking about it since last year. that makes 14. We offered Youkon a place to stay overnight half way there to encourage him and the family to come.
Kay & I make it 16, probably stay at Hidden Hill CG.
Nancy & I make 18 what is a good motel to stay in?
Da wife and I make 20. But I didn't see the date?
Friday evening August 5th and Saturday August 6th
Thanks Jeff, hopefully by that time I will be just like Scully and be officially retired from my day job.
Ron & Jan make 22
Stan makes 23
Dick and Jane make 25.
Vicki and Bill make it 27
We will be there. I'm bringing Logrite Brownies and Koolickles!
So 4 more makes 31.
Jeff,
As much as I would like to attend, the Michigan Army National Guard has other plans for me starting that weekend. That starts our annual training in Grayling.
I've followed all your adventures at the pig roast for several years now and would love to attend, but so far it's been too close to our family vacation in the keys. Lobster season starts Aug 6th and I'm in a boat with kids and grandkids spending the week snorkeling and fishing. Sorry to miss the pig roast but look forward to all the pics and reports after the event, wonderful to put faces to names from your reports. Have fun, stay safe, some day I'll find out what "purple drank" is,
Joe
Kitty and I are planning on making it. So I guess we're 32 and 33.
i know 3 of us but probably 4 so 37 8)
Jen, me, Cade and Cooper make 41
I am coming.
42
Just made reservations at Countryside Campground. Hidden Hill is booked full for the weekend and not available. Kitty and I Plan on arriving Thursday evening the 4th. We're already in the count up above, so no increase in the number.
Has anyone ever stayed at Countryside Campground? I guess I waited too long for Hidden Hill.

Haven't stayed there either but Good Sam Club rates it 9/10/9 on a 1 to 10 scale for each category. Also receive 10% Good Sam member discount.
I called Hidden Hill and they found me a site so I won't be needing Countryside but will want to hear about it for the future.
I called two of the better motels in Harrison, and they are all booked up :).
We booked our motel room in Harrison a month ago and got the last one.
I just got news that the carriage house Inn has reopened! I found a facebook page. All I know so far, but that used to be the very best place to stay.
https://www.facebook.com/vivianatcarriageinn/
PatD and I will spend Thursday night at Burch Run (Pine Ridge Campground or something like that) and will be at Hidden Hill Friday.
Marcia and I will make it 44 I think. See you all then!
Myself and Jackie maybe. Sure want to, if you'll let a newby come. Will confirm as soon as I know for sure.
You certainly are welcome to come. :)
We intend to be there. That'll make 46
Sheepkeeper,
It is always good to see you.
I have waited to reply to this year's Pigroast thread as I was intent on coming, but family events loomed as conflicts. My daughter, who just graduated from college, has taken a job as a Spanish teacher at a school in Connecticut. Unfortunately, her "move-in" is that weekend. She can't get into her apartment on campus prior to that, and she's expected to be there that Monday for the start of her orientation. So I'm moving stuff to Connecticut that Friday-Saturday-Sunday, and regrettably will not be there this year.
The good news is that, starting this January, I will be significantly less burdened at work, and my schedule will allow such enjoyable trips. So, count me out for this year, as it is my loss (not yours), and I'll see you next August.
Doctorb
It is our loss also :(
You'll be missed again doctorb by us, but I think the fish will be happy for another year.
Hey,if you are from central NY,i have a welder that is looking for ride to pig roast...Thanks Albert
reserved our motel today. Lakeside , Hope it is ok. Budd lake motel seems to be closed, no answer.
I suppose I should punt my name in before Jeff has to ask me why I am waiting. ;)
Bob and Judy make 48
'bout time. We look forward to seeing you. :)
A pigman at a pig roast . . ok ?
Jeff,
I will leave early and help set up, may bring a younger employee with me or granddaughter she is young, but willing to work and do whatever someone needs.
50
I sure hope there are a bunch of you sitting on the fence this year that plan on hopping off on the pigroast side! This RSVP count is way down from every other year at this point.
John and Faith plus 2 or 3 others. we'll call it 54.
Jeanette and I will be there. That brings the count to 58.
Mary and I are going to miss it this year. Have a lot going on, and a direct hit on that day. Jeff, give our love to Tammy. Feet are pretty complicated things. Hope all goes well for her.
Really hate to miss it, with the new building, and all. Have a good one. Count still at 58.
Norm
I plan on stopping by on Friday for a while and then proceed on to Traverse City to attend the wedding (8/6) of one of my nieces. She did not consult with me when choosing a date and ..........well now you know.
Gerald
Even after almost a year. Last year's pig still smells good!

Looks like that we have a new pig roasting location.
We do. :) Which means a new piggy disassembly location as well. :)
How did you move the smoker? say_what
It twernt easy! I did it by myself using the logrite dump trailer using the dump and straps for winches. Wore me plum out.
My wife son and I will be there. Count up to 61
I figured it was Goat meat smokin after the goat helped move the smoker
whiteflag_smiley
Ima gonna make it 8)
Unfortunately Linnea and Jette need to man the fort so I will be traveling solo.
Count is now at 62.
I have attended a few of these events, some very small if you include the weenie roast before the pig roasts began, to very large events of upwards of 100 people. The small events allow one to visit more in depth with more people but the big events really help put faces to names. Looking forward to meeting new people and old friends. :)
Because of circumstances beyond my control, I will not be making right with my promise made last year to be there this year. Hate having to miss the roast again but it is what it is. I just can't do it cette année. Ca cera pour l'ans prochain!!! :-\

Sorry to hear that Marcel. I was hoping to get to visit with you some again.
The Blueberry Waffle cone and Denali Bear Tracks ice cream is here, along with the awesome Koegels Polish sausage everyone loves for Friday night's boiled dinner.

I may reconsider. say_what
You really should.
we have a small surprise for everyone so I need an accurate head count so if you are still on the fence now is the time to put your name down.

You're pullin' tears from my eyes, knowing I won't be getting any of you're surprises. Last time I almost got a brownie.. ! :-\
my surprise is better than brownies.
Is the surprise two brownies?
Come on Dan, put a number in your post. A higher number!
nope a brownie and a koolickle :D :D :D :D :D
I'm willing to trade my koolickle for another brownie. ;D
I have no idea what a koolitle is, but anything coming from her is good with me !!!! :-* :-* :-* ;D
This will be the first time in my two year rotation that I won't be attending, Jeff and everyone. We might be having a short work season this year so I have to keep the saw in the bushes. ;) I haven't really participated as much on the forum side the last couple years since a lot of my spare computer time is now dedicated to weaving interests as many of you probably know from Facebook. Have a good time all, keep the roast alive. Good times.
In other news, next year I will likely get the ball rolling on selling this house to return to a new home on the farm and later a wood shop. I still have sawdust in my blood. ;)
We haven't committed yet as Dee has family coming in from Sioux Falls that week that she hasn't seen in 15 years. Plans are still fluid at this time.
i am going to try and be there. Lots of ifs with older parents. I'm old myself. I believe if count is right, make me 64.
Looking forward to meeting you Mike. :)
We are starting to get in the go mode. move_it It's like the monkey said when he got his tail caught in the fan....it won't be very long now.
I thought it was when he backed into the lawn mower
Yup, that would work too.
Getting ready to travel included cleaning out my work truck. Oh my, where does that sawdust come from?? ???
I put the 5th wheel hitch back in the truck (haven't been using the RV much), next week get the RV packed and first night, Aug 2nd will be at Benezette, heart of PAs elk country.
I've been putting off committing to the pig roast as there was a very good chance that I wouldn't be able to make it . Now things have changed a bit and it looks like I should be able to make it . So if I counted right that should make 65 . scouter Joe
I look forward to seeing you. 8)
WV hillbilly will be there so that makes 66
Well I'll be. We are looking forward to seeing you.
its been a while since Ive been to the pigroast but I'm really excited about making it there this year . i'll be in Ann Arbor from July 30th till Aug 4th for training .

A very good reason to drive 1000+ miles to a Forestry Forum Pig Roast, but not the best reason. LINK (https://forestryforum.com/board/index.php/topic,52127.msg753446.html#msg753446)
Thanks for the link Will help me put names to the faces. I am BAD in that area.
We are loaded up and ready to travel, move_it but we have absolutely no idea which route we will take. smiley_headscratch There are very few highways that we have not traveled. :P
You might consider the road less traveled.
Robert Frost (1874–1963). Mountain Interval. 1920.
1. The Road Not Taken
TWO roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth; 5
Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same, 10
And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back. 15
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference. 20
Thanks Danny. I shorten it down quite a bit:
When you come to a fork in the road.....take it
Never wonder what was down the other road
Because you did not go that way.
All that I know this morning, is that we are going North. Pat will look at the Atlas and decide. :)

I believe the above was said by Yogi Berra.
In his case either one would get you to his house as he had a circular drive.

If Pat guides you through Northern PA going to or from spend a few days in Benezette. The campground just outside town is where we had an elk lick all the grease off the fifth wheel pin. The Elk visitors center is also nice.
We are in Sikeston, MO.
If you are coming up I69 and need an overnight we have room for you to park. Give me a holler and we can guide you here. dewwoodp@gmail.com
The Logrite Atv trailer makes a huge job for just two people much easier. Moving the 1000 lb pigroast table.

Kokomo, IN tonight?? I think. ???
MM- Don't know know your travel map but if by chance you end up going north on IN state road 19(like going toward Nappanee) you will go right past my house. Just on other side of US30. Stop in if you can. Otherwise I'll see you next week.
we are just off I41 in fond du lac wi if you go that way. Plenty of room to park the trailer. EAA is this week and is just 15 miles from us PS pineywoods is there We might be able to hook up with him
.
That a bit easier then laying it across Tammy's wheelchair. ;D
If anyone is passing through central Missouri on the way up and has some extra room to haul something, I have a swing to send up to the pig roast. We aren't going to make it up this year.
Yukon,
What are the dimensions? I will be leaving Stillwater early Thursday morning and going through Springfield Mo about 7-8 am
Okmulch, assembled it is roughly 24x24 x49". disassembled 8x24x49"
(https://forestryforum.com/gallery/albums/userpics/33654/image~6.jpeg?easyrotate_cache=1469822972) the back and arm rest can come out and lay flat
That looks nice, I'll bet there's several people would stop and get it on their way home. ;D
I'm thinking I will make it this year..... I think I'm number 67
Matt
It's about time! :)
At this late date where would one fly into and find accommodations?
Just curious.
Rob
Your best bet for accommodations would be in Clare.
The nearest airports would be MBS or Flint. MBS is exactly one hour travel by car to here, 45-50 minutes to Clare.
Thank you very much guys! Much as I would like to jump on a plane, some "stuff" got in the way today and we're going to have to sit this one out. So goes self employment!
Wishing all of you a good time and I'm hoping for maybe the next one. Cheers Rob
Well DanG!
Man , I can't get over that pile of bacon you posted ! :D
Unfortunately, I'm going to miss this one.
We need more pig eaters! I was informed today by the meat packer, that our hog weighs 35lbs more than we wanted. It may be the biggest hog we ever roasted at around 200lbs hanging weight they estimate.

No, but it may get done later than normal and be a bit warmer for the guys to process than they are used to. It should still get done in plenty of time. I may have cooked a 200 pounder years ago for a graduation. I remember we had a long one here one year that was hard to get in the roaster. We are certainly going to need plenty of hands on deck Friday night to get him lifted in and a cooking.
Well I have been eating very little and saving room for my share of that hog. :D

It was wonderful to see all the people that came this year. Looking forward to next year and hoping many more will attend.
This beautiful lady won this great prize at our first time to the pig roast this year. She had the prize-winning rubber duck. She sure knows how to pick her duck! crow_smiley

Thank You Jeff & "Company" for all the hard work you put in. Everything was nice and enjoyable and delicious. It was nice putting names and conversation together. Thanks to sponsors and people who donated prizes.
I didn't have time to take a lot of photos. Hopefully others did. I wish I would have taken a photo of three redwood table we use to use for food all covered with the awesome array of door prizes.

Wish I had gotten a pic with all the prizes on the table. This is only about half. Everyone walked away with something.
Did anyone do a head count?
There were no Goat heads there.

Hey Danny it's boxelder. I would swear on my mother's life.
Just about all picked up. Hoopty is back inside sitting where we did the food service this year. I think all and all the buildings debut to servicing the pigroast was a total success. I'd like to once again thank STIHL and Wood-Mizer for helping make the dream of this come true.

Thank You Burlkraft for the magnificent burl turning. It certainly is an item that we will treasure.
We will see you tomorrow Jeff.
I'll be gone until around noon. Have to go to Lynda's but will be back by noon.
Wish I could have made it. Everything looked spectacular in the photos. Jeff and Tammy have always been great hosts and we have great sponsors as well, and everyone that helps out are great to. :)
PatD and I had a very nice "farewell" visit with Jeff and Tammy this afternoon.

Thank You Howdy for donating the array of pottery that was offered as door prizes. I was fortunate enough to be drawn for the mug with the grapes. It will be welcomed at the Cabin whose official name is "The Davis Vineyard".
The mugs can be seen on the right in the first of Sheepkeeper's pictures above.
And yes, I had forgotten about the many members that make donations to the prize table as well.
I also have one of Howdy's mugs for my hot chocolate in winter. :)
The one I have from Yukon's chilli gathering this past Feb. Is working double time with the watermelon! Still thanking Howdy!!
We did a tally, and surprisingly came up with 90 total for Saturday. We had 41 on Friday evening. We would have had well over 100 if everyone on the rsvp would have showed up, and another dozen or so that told me they were coming out side of the forum that were also no shows.
It was an awesome gathering . Beautiful day , great people , great food , great prizes and outstanding hosts .
Thanks Tammy and Jeff for another wonderful pig roast . Another Thanks goes out to all those that contributed prizes too .
It was fun meeting new people and visiting with old friends
Whoever wasn't there lost a special time to visit with their FF Friends.

We are finally back heat home.
Thanks again to Jeff, Tammy, their families, Wood-Mizer, Stihl, Logrite, and to the individuals that contributed in any way to make the 2016 Pig Roast gathering the success that it was. smiley_thumbsup smiley_thumbsup

Looks like that you missed the family reunion.

If it is going to be a GOAT roast I won't be there as there is not enough time before the date (8/5/2017) to get psyched to eat GOAT. Come to think of it you might just as well serve Grits with it.
Gerald
I have had some goat and it is very similar to good venison as long as it's a young goat.
There will never be a sanctioned Forestry Forum goat roast. We value our goat well beyond any nutritional value.
Does Goat taste like sawdust?? :-X :o
I've had it once at a party.
Don't know any particulars about it other than it was like chewing on baler twine and just as tasty.

Oh, Goat Is Me
Goats are really kind of weird,
Even babies have a scraggly beard,
They eat all kinds of different things,
Like clothes, and trash, and even rings,
Like your dog you blame for farts,
They are a supporter of the arts,
Paintings, sculptures, and design,
Each is on the menu to dine,
They're like skinny wool-less sheep,
Goats are a perfect date: cheap!
They are fun to pet but watch those fingers,
Bite is worse than bark, but not good singers,
Watch out for their little horns,
A head butt is never easily adorned,
Goats are funny when they climb,
Get your hands off: this one's mine!

Thanks
Matt
Kingcha, glad to see that cant hook went to someone that can/will use it. Also thanks for the picture in use.
