Title: seasoned ash
Post by: Wildcat on April 03, 2011, 09:20:20 PM
Hi, I am a newbee to the forum,
My brother inlaw working at a home construction site has the chance to get 25 to 30 ash logs that was cut back in late Aug, have turned gray in color ranging from 10'' to 25'' thick 10 to 20' long, and a 100yr old ash that has not been cut up yet, would this be worth the time for lumber milling or just fire wood..thanks

Go for it, there might be some bugs in the outside, but the inside should still be fine. It would be a good idea to flip the cant often to reduce stress.

Do it sooner rather than later, as ash tends to check big-time if left the logs are left sitting too long.

If you looked around I am sure you could find a market for baseball bat blanks. They like the larger diameter because they can get more linear wood from them.
