Jeff

I got this roller base kit for my little tablesaw. You had to provide your own 5/4 square "hardwood" to assemble. (Worst instructions ever) anyhow, I didnt have any hardwood, but I did go dig a 2 by 4 out of the snow that I cut many years ago, and had been part of my fence up until a couple months ago.

What do you think it is?

I'm wondering if it isn't larch, Jeff.  Not a lot of such wood around perhaps, but those wide rings do make me consider it.  And I do know you've fiddled around with it a bit in the past.
Ask me about hybrid larch!

It is Tamarack. Eastern Larch. That 8ft 2 by 4 was still arrow straight after having been a fence support board for several years. Not typical of Larch, but I had quite a bit of it that Ive used for different things and it worked well. :)
