I used a 440 A cable machine to delimb years ago. I had two types that I had used over the years one was one made of well casing that I had welded up the first one was one made of old winch cable and clamps. I found a couple of things really make it work well and less of a struggle. I positioned the gate so I could back down hill into it, I used a pivot tree to spin the load around so the trees ended up facing the gate and then back the machine down the hill forcing the trees into the gate. I had much better luck when there was a large debri pile already around the gate, this seemed to really help the process. The cable limber did an equal job to that of the one made of well  casings and cost a fraction of what the of the later. I used it on red and white pine..Bob

i have 2 big pines maybe 2 feet apart and i back the tractor into them it breaks the majority of the limbs off and when there is a slash pile it really works what would be the best material to make it out of? i was thinking of using 4x4 posts put together with heavy duty lag bolts or large tube steel?

Yes,  my limbing gate, i would find two trees about 20 feet apart with a good turn tree. Then i would get two 30 foot poles, on the two standing trees i would take the saw and cut a hole through them, about four feet fron the ground for a log chain to go through. Then chain the first pole across about a foot off the ground, then the second pole two feet above the first one. You ajust it to where it works best for you, this is a Finlander limber [ cheap ]

i gonna have to give that a try i was gonna make one out of steel and bend it in the shape of a trailer delimber but my knuckleboom is too small and i dont want to break anything- turn gear, hoses, etc so the gate is my only option
