Here is a pic of a birch burl I cut the other day. I am thinking of slicing it up into 1/4" slices to make some veneer. What are your thoughts on this.

Any one else done this and if so how did it go how did you stack and dry them and any other comments or remarks would be welcome

It's been my experience that if you slice it that thin, you will have a bunch of twisted, curled slices that will be unusable. I cut some hard maple at 1/2", planning to make the slices into door panels. I think I will mostly get the 1/4" thickness I want for the larger doors. If I wanted smaller panels, I will probably get 3/8". I would suggest that you cut it thicker, then resaw when dry. Maybe around a true 1" thick. You can get pen blanks from that after you square up the slices for panels as a bonus.
