I was looking at buying a used Vermeer 252 stump grinder.  I'd like to supplement my income from the mobile sawing.

  • Is this a good machine?
  • Is it a big enough grinder to be able to make money with?
  • Are there parts on the grinder I should inspect that have known problems?
  • What other question(s) should I have asked?
I have zero experience with stump grinders, all advice would be appreciated.

thanks in advance

The Vermeer 252 is a good machine as long as you don't try to take on jobs to big for it. That machine is best suited for stumps that a tow behind machine can not access. Check for wear at all of the pivot locations and the bearings on the cutter wheel. Those bearings have no seals so they must be greased after every stump. Put enough grease in to flush out all of the old grease.
