What a treat tonights show was!!  Fun, plain fun, especially when they met to vote.  Some people must not watch survivor before they head off to play.  One of the few times the person I wanted to see off from the start did herself in.  Proves that some people just can't keep their mouth shut.  To vote off one of the strongest members would have been total suicide even if Rob is the one to beat.
Hope the rest of you fans liked it as well as I did.

It definitely started off with a BANG!  The Federal Agent dude is like the fisherman from the last season, he is self destructing from the git go  :).  The lady that found the idol right off is interesting, but she will not be around for too long I suspect.  She did make a splash though.

I don't see that the two veterans can make it, but who knows?

Different strokes........

Some of us don't watch because we know it's rigged.  However, it's entertainment, so if you like it, enjoy enjoy!

This thread was started for those of us that like the show. For those of you that don't we'll try not to dis your interests.

They need to get rid of the "special agent" asap. What a nut.

If he was a special agent, I'd bet he got kicked out.
I guess we'll find out if it is true later on.
Can you imagine getting stuck on an Island with that weirdo.
The lady who found the Idol isn't as brilliant as the move finding the idol was, as it turns out. :D
Boston Rob and Russell have jumped the Shark for me.
I would be okay if I never heard tell of either one again. ;D

I don't have a TV so I never watch it. But I do enjoy the play-by-play here on the forum. I don't actually know what's going on, but it's fun to "listen" to what everyone has to say.

Each team needs strong physical players until the merge, so I see the old guys staying for a while.  Just before merge is when   R&R will be in most danger of being voted out.  But even when voted out, there is redemption island.  Will there be an R&R matchup on RI?

This is much more exciting than last season's snooze fest.  These people have spunk!

That was one of the more riveting tribal council's we've seen in a long time.  Secret Agent Man doesn't have much self control.   :D

I love to watch Rob and Russell work their manipulative magic, and Redemption Island just might be the icing on the cake!  Both tribes had shelter in record time, and I didn't see any slackers.  Russell's team really did a fantastic job in the Immunity Challenge.

I can't wait till next Wednesday!   8)

I currently don't have TV reception, so I can't watch any current stuff.

The last Survivor Season I watched was in 2004, Season 9 – Vanuatu.   My first cousin, Twila, was a contestant on the show and took second place.  That season was fun to watch.

There is a lot of secrecy that is required of the participants.  What I remember her telling me was, she couldn't even let anyone know she was filming the show until she returned from Vanuatu and then didn't talk about the experience until the winner was announced.

How many of you Survivor fans out there remember her or that season?  Nice comments only please - she's my cousin.

Below is an image of the DVD cover from Season 9 (Twila is in upper right corner) and to the right is a photo taken of Survivor contestant Twila and myself at a family gathering.

I suspect Mr Federal Agent works for the TSB at a airport checking bags. He did mention he had worked for 3 different agencies. Wonder what the other 2 were, IRS, Purchasing, dunno.... I don't think it was the Secret Service. Seems every season there's always one I want to just reach in and ........ He's it this year so far but ol Russell.......
One of them guys Steve the tall gray haired one was a NFL QB I think. I even would say he was a Raider 2nd stringer at one time.
Sure is a better looking lot  than the last ones. I miss Natalie though.  I also noticed they are already having water on the lens issues. ;)
What makes people run their mouth when they find the idol? Great move finding it then blows everything by telling dummy 1 and 2.

I have hopes this year.

We chose not to keep a satellite when we moved here a couple of years ago, but Sarah and I both enjoyed every series before that. The last few haven't caught my attention much and I was just as glad we couldn't watch them, but this one is, after I read an article on the new aspects. I may have to find it somewhere and catch up!! :)

ErikC, you can catch up on the previous episode at the CBS Survivor website.
I'm just not sure how many days after the first airing before they put it up but it is usually less than a week.

This one is shaping up to be an interesting series.  It looks like Boston Rob, the "Intimidator",  has gathered enough weak followers to insure that he is around for a while.  It's hard to question his strategy.  Looks like some of the others are trying to out dumb each other.

Yes Jeff, you remember her correctly.  I'm glad someone did.

I know we are stirring the conversation to "How do you like the current season".  But, I still wanted to comment to Doctorb's statement about the show being rigged.  She never felt like the show was rigged.  I do think the program/plan/competitions are dynamic, so that things don't get boring for the viewers.  No comment required - that way I didn't high jack the thread.

Question for Survivor fans:  As stated in and earlier post above, I do not get/pay for TV reception, but we do watch TV via DVD purchases.

The past Survivor Season DVD's are available for purchase.  If I was going to buy just one to watch.  Which Season would all you Survivor fans purchase?  I have seen Season 1-4 and season 9.  I haven't followed the show for the past few years and do not know the outcome, so no review spoilers please.

Thanks, Dean

I would have to say Samoa season #19 and Heroes vs. Villains season #20

If you never saw him play, and have to make a choice of seasons you need to watch the ultimate villain Russel.
Title: Re: Survivor is on!

I completely agree with Jeff and if you have to narrow it down to one series, for me, it would be Hero's versus Villains.  You'll see the best of the best in that series.

Title: Re: Survivor is on!

Jeff-I'm with you on both: Which season to buy? "Heroes VS Villains", and the ex-federal agent needs TO GO! NOW!
I don't think Russel or Boston Rob will make it to the end, but who knows? With the new Exile Island twist, that could shake things up considerably.

It's always a good idea to have the most disliked person sitting next to you at the last vote. Special Agent sure falls into that category. But...oh-my-God! There HAS to be others that are disliked, but not that obnoxious. But Gees....SHUTUP already!! No wonder he's not a special agent any more!! Oh yeah...I'm takin' my foot ball and goin' home. And by the way...Mary took an extra candy last night....so NYAH!

Thanks for the suggestion on which seasons are the best.  Currently Amazon doesn't show season 19 as an option, but shows season 20 as an option, but not yet released.  Most likely season 20 will be released late spring.  I will watch for it and I am still open to other season suggestions.

I thought some of the characteristics of a federal agent are:
1. Very secretive. They only tell you what they want you to know and only if it will benefit them or their assignment.
2. Low profile. Spend more time listening than talking. Given the chance, most people can not stand a vacuum in a conversation and they will start talking just to make noise. Then they usually say something they shouldn't have. A good agent capitalizes on this.
3. Denial. Always claim to be something other than an agent unless there is a need to identify themselves.

Maybe I've been reading too many books. Or maybe there is a good reason this guy was a federal agent.  :D

I would have kept him and kicked his girlfriend off. He was a physical player for the challenges.

Russell is probably going to regret flat out lying to Ol Rooster about the hint. At least I hope so.

Let's see how O'l Rooster plays his secret immunity idol.  Can he keep his mouth shut?  This series has huge potential to be quite entertaining.  Has Russell met his match?  Agent man could go to the final.  Would any jurist vote for him?  This show can go in 30 directions.

So is he a "federal agent" or a "special agent"?

One of my high school classmates became a cop after graduating. When I met him at a class reunion 15 years later, he handed me a business card that showed his official title as "special agent". Turns out after 10 years with the police, he got hired away to an insurance company to do fraud investigations. Not what you might think of as a "special agent" :D.

Last night was one of the best episodes ever!  These people know how to play the game, and it sure isn't boring.  Throwing the challenge to force Tribal Council was a stroke of brilliance.  Now, Russell goes up against Matt (and the winner goes up against anyone else that get's voted out before the merge) at Redemption Island.  Wow.  Matt is the nice guy and Russell the ultimate bad boy.

This season is great!   8)

I don't know why the idiots always feel the need to share their idol secret. It usually comes back to bite them in the end. Rob has the right idea of keeping it to himself if he was to ever find one.

When will those idiots realize?? As soon as they vote out the 'other' tribe, they are on the chopping block themselves!! They need to get rid of the snake head. Just can't believe there's so many that drink the kool-aid. Another group that hears chimes when the 'leader' talks....I have to admit, Rob does have a way with words. Very admirable manipulation of people. Okay...I'm off to find me a feather.....

The tribe that's on the chopping block only got in that position because they had one less member, one less vote.  I wonder if they are rethinking the wisdom of throwing a challenge simply to vote Russell out?

It will be interesting to see who makes it on Redemption Island next week!   8)

Russell is out, but I bet he is laughing.   I hope there are some twists and turns to liven things up.  Phil is playing as good a game as Rob is.  He just might come in second place.
If the losers find an immunity idol, it could really mess things up.  It looks like they had to kick two off in one night to get over a slow period.
Glad you brought this back up Cap.
Title: Re: Survivor is on!
Post by: iffy on April 15, 2011, 12:07:54 PM
Seems to me the losers missed an absolutely golden opportunity. Rob was paranoid when he found them digging around the flagpole. If they had been thinking, they should have furtively moved off to have a huddle, then pretend to hide something in their clothing. A little slip of the tongue could have convinced Rob's group that they had indeed found a hidden idol, with maybe a hint as to who was in possession. That would have forced Rob's group to split their votes to pull the idol out of hiding, and all the losers could have voted for Rob.
Coulda, Shoulda, Woulda.  :)
Title: Re: Survivor is on!
Post by: Mooseherder on April 15, 2011, 02:47:27 PM
You're right about that because Rob and Phil were a little frantic about the flagpole.

It sure has turned into a snooze fest.  When they started the puzzle challenge for immunity, I said, "Rob is going to win," and he did.  Yeah, what a surprise.   ::)

If I hadn't had laundry to fold while I watched, I sure wouldn't have taken the time to sit through another predictable pick off of the Zapatera tribe.

Not a single member of Rob's tribe (including Rob) deserves a million dollars for their game play.  Rob is so obvious that he is going to take Phillip to the final three because he knows that no one in the jury will vote for him.  The only question left is who that third person will be, and they are all so glassy eyed I don't even care about that.

On a positive note, this season has proven to me that the game isn't fixed, because no way would the producer's choreograph this much boredom into this game.

I guess I'm rooting for Matt.

I think  if Matt can  make it to the end he will win the money, just because everyone  will feel sorry for  him being alone all the  time.

Right now, there are 8 active survivors, 3 on redemption island, and 1 juror.  Somethings gotta happen soon.  There can't be more than 5 shows left.  Typically, they end in a sweeps month, and that would be May.  They also have their reunion and final show on a Sunday, and the Sunday before Memorial Day is probably out.  Viewership problems.

If there are 5 more voted off, that would give 3 left.  The winner of redemption island is going to get back into the game at some point.  So, if we have 5 more competitions at redemption island, that puts the jury at 6 member.  Add the extra from the island, and the jury gets to be 7 members.

But, the jury is usually 9 members.  Speculation on my part, but maybe there are only 2 in the finals.  Everyone is suspecting its 3.  But, lets say its the winner of the last competition, the runner up, and  the winner of redemption island as the final 3.  That may be prove interesting.

Good thoughts, Ron. It would be a way to get the third person.....

I am glad this worthless season is over.  I will be watching next time though.
Redemption Island was worthless.  Hope they don't do that again.
Surely there are more folks like Ralph that want to be on the show.
Matt  and a few others were class acts too.

The repeat appearances of former participants hopefully will stop.

Thanks Mooseherder. I look and feel like a Nyquil commercial over here. I managed to stay awake through the finale though. Rob played a solid game. I'm not really a "fan" of his but he definitely outplayed the others. You know Russell is boiling inside.

Redemption Island is back next season along with two former players  :).  I don't feel that Redemption Island added any real value to the game.

I agree it's as worthless as Exile Island.  The only improvement they made to the show this year was that they didn't send the final three around to pay respect to name plaques of all that were voted off previously.  That practice always seemed so phony to me.

After Mike lost at Redemption Island, there was absolutely no one that I was interested in left to win the million dollars.

I could understand why Ashley, Natalie and Andrea didn't vote off Boston Rob, because they knew he had an idol, but, for the life of me, why didn't they go after Phillip?

All in all, the most boring season of Survivor, ever!

Ashley and Natalie must have known that Andrea would have beat them.  Natalie provided one of the weakest arguments on why she should win of any finalist in the history of the show.

I know everyone get's something but I'm not sure what the scale is.

I fell asleep right after Rob won. Who got favorite player and the $100K?

Boston Rob won the $ Million and the $100K, too.
I vote for all new people next season.
How about they do an episode in the Northwest Territories?

Rob got the extra $100k.  I can't figure out how he got to be the favorite.  He wasn't mine.

I found this breakdown on one site, but its from back in Australia, so maybe its changed.  There are more contestants in some of the years.

1st Place: $1,000,000
2nd Place: $100,000
3rd Place: $85,000
4th Place: $70,000
5th Place: $55,000
6th Place: $45,000
7th Place: $35,000
8th Place: $27,500
9th Place: $20,000
10th Place: $15,000
11th Place: $10,000
12thPlace: $7,500
13th Place: $5,500
14th Place: $4,500
15th Place: $3,500
16th Place: $2,500

Losers also get a nice vacation.

I think next year is Survivor:  Baffin Island   :D

I thought Matt should have got it just because...........

Did they ever get to the bottom of Phillips Federal Agent status?

Yep.  He was one.  Worked in the Defense Department and with the Navy.  They had a co-worker come on and vouch for his status.

Dumb moves: Getting rid of Russell. Certainly a wise choice, but not when it's two tribes! They diminished their strength when they needed it most. Never EVER throw a challenge to vote one of your off! Second dumb move was all the followers of Rob. Lemmings! Not capable of making their own decisions. Followers will never lead. Rob's group was just the opposite of Russell's. Pitiful!!!

MrC, I completely agree.   There are some life lessons on survivor.
