US companies sold out to global conglomerates and buy our politicians. The people woke up but it's late in the game.  No way this Country has to be running deficits every year. 300,000 foreign students get a full ride on American taxpayers kinda stuff.
Decent folks see the game and stay out to protect themselves.  I'd love to see someone primary Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski. Miss Lindsey and his friends also.

Quote from: rusticretreater on June 30, 2025, 11:53:37 AMThere was a show on Canadian TV about logging that included Heli logging too.  It was done Gold-Rush style.  They were bringing out huge trees.  Grab onto them while they are still standing, cut the base and off they go.
Those guys did a lot of single stem heli work.  Select trees are climbed for limbing and topping then 2 seriously wedged felling cuts that leave a chunk of holding wood.  The heli drops a grapple over the top of the tree and rocks back and forth to snap the holding wood, then the log is flown to a dump.  Pretty technical all around.

Nebraska, not the same but similar- a million years ago, I was making pretty poor money, in my factory job, in Dayton, Ohio, working 2nd shift. After work I was in a huge hurry to get to Cincinnati, about 45 minutes away, but I needed to stop for gas first, about a mile from work. I stopped, went in to prepay for like 10 or 20 bucks of gas, and headed on my way. A couple of exits down the highway I looked at my gas gauge and felt real dumb. I was running too far behind to turn around to get the gas I paid for, so I stopped and paid for gas again, this time making sure I actually touched a pump...

Granite and Corley, those are nice looking trucks.

I like the hidden gooseneck.

You guys are definitely making me consider Rams as well.

The wife and I went to the hardware store last weekend because she had "a project for some lattice". I didn't ask and she didn't tell. Turns out she wanted to use the lattice to disguise the a/c unit a bit. Alas, the lattice she bought was a bit narrow.

Once I saw what she was doing and that she wasn't happy with what she had I'd mentioned that I could build what she wanted pretty easily.

I had a bunch of long pieces of 1.5x1.5"s laying around that I cut for what was going to be our log surrounded raised beds, which didn't work. Seen along the fenceline here:

I planed them and sliced them down a bit into a bunch of .75x.75"s, 6' long times a qty 9, then qty 12 of 4' long by about half inch. I was not precise on any of it but within probably a quart inch all the way around.

Wouldn't you know? A project that went easily and as expected! She gave me a thumbs up and said "that was quick!" I'm real pleased with the results. My newish shop layout made for easy transition from planer to table saw to circular saw, to my new finish nail gun (harbor freight model which is great! Man, what a time and pain saver!). It's not often I have a plan that goes well and this one is encouraging, though very simple!

I am trying to wrap my mind around this - you have a sawmill. You have logs. You have lumber. You are trying to decide whether to use wood or metal?

I worked much of my career overseas and with TCN (Third Country Nationals) before that became politically incorrect and they became OCNs (Other Country Nationals) and they always called me Mr. Howard.

For some reason the Filipinos always held Engineers in very high esteem and called them Engineer Jones or whatever.

Quote from: caveman on June 30, 2025, 09:29:36 PMThanks for sharing the video.  I'd like to go out there and experience that climate and terrain.  I'm sure I'd be sucking air, spending most of my life at 82' above sea level or below.  Do any of you know if the saw he was running was a 592?
592 on the bigger stands like in that video I think, 572 in smaller diameter stands.

Doc,

We have a place not far from me that sells new, but mostly used shelves and racking, maybe there is a place like that near you?

Howard,

You said Design Committee and my flip phone went off and I saw the Bat Sign, I mean Design Sign off in the sky.  Currently sharpening my pencil and searching for graph paper!

It is 2" thick. I lowered the WB from 97 to 95, this seemed to help get water moving a little. If it stalls again I will raise the DB to 115°
Surface appears to be ~ 18%-19%, internal probes are showing 38%.
Seems as though I may be pulling the entrained water now, maybe it just needed a little kickstart. I've had to do similar with Whiteoak, but I figured white pine would've been an easy one to dry.
