What brand and model do you use?
Lucas 7-23 with slabber. Nyle L53 kiln. Shopbot CNC 48x96

I have used a Walmart 70 pint one for years.  It is in my container.  More often to maintain humidity, but I have put much air dry (12% MC) wood in there to get to 7%

Doc, Is your container a pre-insulated one? I'm planning to insulate a standard 20' one I have to convert it to a kiln. My main concern is getting it fully sealed off inside to prevent corrosion. Closed cell foam spray on walls & roof are the obvious choice but on the pricey side. Open to suggestions.

I have thought of painting it back to absorb solar during the day.  I just use heat from sun on the yellow color and heat from the dehumidifier.  I have seen some that have the closed cell.  prob. the easiest for someone who knows what they are doing.  The container place was able to tell me about a company that had done a good job on many of their containers.  The foam looks uneven and could get damaged moving stuff in and out.  you could buy a pre-insulated one, but the materials have to be ok with the heat and humidity.

mine is not pre-insulated but is a conditioned space.  it goes a month and does not require the DH to run when the wood is at the MC I want.  I have the 20 foot that has doors at one end, and four doors along the 20-foot side so it opens all the way up.  cost more due to the frame that must support the box, as it is missing the Integrity that would have been provided by the wall replaced by doors.

I have a 600 sq ft room that I'd like to optimize for lumber storage and mid-stage drying. I have some samples at 20% and noticed a couple degree drop in two weeks with just cheap fans. That's acceptable to me. So, I'd like to add fans and a commercial "crawl space" dehumidifier to ramp this up... so, low temperature (60-80 F) longer duration slow but steady drying... Being winter now, it's already fairly low RH at 33%. Summers will be higher. Anyway. I've noticed that units aim for 39-50%. I'd like one that goes lower.

Alorair seems like a good brand... but they don't go so low.

Would welcome suggestions.

If your RH is at 33% you def not need a DH, what you need is air flow and a little more heat to speed up the process.

I have two DH in the kiln running full 24/7 but our RH is 70-100% the whole year, i have free heat though.

Thank you for the feedback. I have only three minimal fans now so I need to build air flow capacity.

Though in the summer I'm sure the humidity will be much higher, so the DH will come in handy, I expect.
