Ramon, it will work when the wood is wet, but will add water to the air unless you use a heat exchanger, so the exhaust goes out and the heat stays in.  any carbon fuel that burns with O2 releases energy and makes CO2 and H2O.

You make all kinds of stuff work there so give it a try.  if you wanted to put a barrel of water on the fire and pump hot water through a radiator inside with a fan blowing on it, that might work.   ffcool ffcool ffcool

Very interesting Doc, so a direct wood fire would be the same??

I always wanted to try out some additional heating for the kiln and that was the fast and cheapest solution we had in mind, was only 120$ for the propane cylinder and burner, if it doesn't work we can use it to melt the candle wax we use as endsealer. the load of propane is only 14$ and i have heated with it for 5 days (4-5h every morning) and it still has propane in it, so pretty cheap. It ramps up the temperature 5-6 degrees in 4 hours until the sun can take over, so it's like giving the kiln a cold starting aid.

Do you have electricity to your kiln?  In our hot box, we use three 500-watt halogen lights to get it to 150-60 degrees and then two to maintain it for a day or so, using two 4" fans to circulate the air.

Agree propane is a "wet" heat. I've worked construction projects in winter where an open burner was used to heat a building, and overnight a layer of ice would form inside on the windows from the condensation.
Now if you found a propane furnace, it would make a dry heat blowing from it.

If you found a wood stove that the flu could go out the top, you would be good.  here we have forced air wood furnaces, and it is a shroud around a wood stove with a blower to move the heat.

Stick and Boom cylinder had a leak and we needed the excavator to finish painting the big lumber storage so just get it done. always a fun job when the pieces weight 400+kilos /800lbs. go slow but very safely, use your brain.

Sold a pretty good chunk of lumber this week, 16m3 /6800 bdft, no processing just bought it from the closing neighbor company, stored it here for 8 month and resold it for a profit, works for me. now i have a little more space to accommodate some prompt visitors from the north! so they are comfortable sitting and enjoying

That cylinder looks quite a bit beefier than the one for my backhoe, which was probably only a hundred pounds or so.

Nice to the wood sale! Looks like a good stack!

As long as the chrome rod is still in good shape (not all scratched and gouged up) the new seals should last for many hours to come.

A question to all skidder/ tire/ ratios gurus:

I had a bad tire coming since some time so i bought a spare ag tire for the skidder. no forestry tires available in CR, and i don't really need them.

after inflating the new tires the ag tire looks alot bigger than the forestry tire. after mounting it and deflating it the difference is just under 1 inch. i don't think that will affect the diffs, or do i need to buy new tires for the whole machine? the old 440 and 540 skidders have a fixed rear axle and a open front axle diff (with diff lock). so my question: theoretically the skidder is always putting down traction to 3 wheels (there is no open transfer, it's also fixed) so ether way this machine has to always keep up with forces on the rear diff and the transfer??? not sure if i explained myself  ffcheesy

i have heard in dirt drags, they like the front to pull a little faster/harder to help keep it all going forward.  at low speed with a load, I would just be guessing.  is the new tire just an inch larger reading the sidewall?  or is it really just and inch larger in diameter.  some of that may be the bars are newer and pointed in the center of the tread line.  but it looks bigger in the picture.  you know my wife will want to drive it when we are there...  just kidding. ffcheesy  Good luck.

I'd suggest find a 2nd "big" tire to match, and then put the pair on the front or back axle.

Being larger they would need to be on the front to keep from ''wrapping" the drive train gears up.  Since the front diff is not locked, you might could temporarily use the one odd size on the front, but they do need to be matched.  If/when you lock the front, you would be putting some strain on the axles, etc.

1 inch wont matter, but that looks like a lot more than 1 inch.

I keep all my stuff with 4x4 or lockup things with the same size tires. It costs less than buying axles and gears.
Then if you can foam-fill them no more flats, I did that with my Lull.

Thanks for all the info. after lowering the tire pressure and having the heavy machine sitting on the tire it's really only one inch (in height/diam) . i bought 2 new 12ply ag tires from a guy who has 5 sitting around, for 500$ each. next week they show up, so i will mount one to see how tall they are, and put the 2 on the back axle, if they are similar i buy one more to match the front. if they are not similar i buy 2 more to have 4 new identical ones, but would loose the one i mounted this week, which would be a bummer.

you right doc, the treats are new and that's because they are bigger and higher.

Heck, the machine is 54 years old and the fixed rear axle has dragged itself in every corner since then and the gears are like factory new, so the engineers  from deere back then did something right!  the B models have a open back diff i think

How much did it cost to fill with foam? We have a tire constantly going flat on back. 80% tread too.

5 or 600 I think. I don't remember. I would have to look it up. Call around where you are and get the best price. Once you go foam you wont go back to air. ffcheesy

teakwood I would have bought all 4 [same size] in a heartbeat. Then sell the old ones. But that's just me, I don't let problems hang around. :wink_2:

Thanks to Aaron (okmulch) who brought almost a full suitcase of parts for me, i installed the new bearing on the rotary phase converter, also in the suitcase was a 2lb can of skf high temp bearing grease so everything is installed perfectly now as should be. the bearing was 62$ on ebay and here in CR it's 170$  :uhoh:

I like landscaping projects! I would have like that project instead of changing a tire.
