I won't go into detail- it would take too long - about why I chose an Echo 501p over a Stihl 261 c-m today.  Let's just say that the local Stihl dealer obviously doesn't want to service and sell saws.

I waited 2 bloody weeks for a sprocket for my Stihl 362.  And today they told me that if I wanted a 261 (I needed a secondary saw) I'd have to wait till at least April.

I drove 5 minutes down the Highway and came home with a new Echo 501p with an 18" bar for $40 less than the Stihl dealership had quoted me for the 261 with a 16" bar.  Oh, and I checked.  They have sprockets in stock, like any dealership should.

I'm stihl (pun intended) irritated at them.  With the exception of one trimmer, i have had wonderful reliability from Stihl products over the years. It bugs me when any dealership gets taken over by a WDGAD attitude.

Robin Hood had it just about right:  as long as a man has family, friends, deer and beer...he needs very little government!
