Hi!

I'm a new member and I joined to thank all of you guys for the forum and the discussions, especially Jim Rogers and the late Will Beemer.

My buddy got me interested in timber framing and we're building my small cabin. I live in southern Oregon so we get a lot of rain and little snow. I wanted to envelope the frame with a wide roof. I liked how Beemer laid out the basics so I followed his plans but adapted them to make a 20 x 15 cabin. It includes three bents, two top plates and a ridge beam. We milled all of the timbers on my friend's LT28 mill from our local properties. Mostly Dour fir, but some hemlock and a couple of white fir timbers and Oak pegs (used what we had).

The frame was to Beemer specs I hope but we used conventional 2x framing for the floor and roof system. It made sense to us to use standard insulation to me. Working on the wall system as I type, but most likely an exterior 2x4 wall system.

Anyway, I want to thank Will for the book and Jim Rogers for the tools! The 'big Al' layout tool was a game changer. We ended up getting a Japanese Makita chain mortiser and fabricating a heavy duty big Al onto the base of it.

Looking forward to putting up more frames for us in the future.
