Yup probably.  I sawed over 1,000 Sweetgum logs this past Summer.  There was no way to guess what the next one would look like because they were all different.

I agree with Danny, WDH about the wavy (parenchyma) cells which around here are very evident in elm.\Elm is purty wood but difficult in many ways.
an old firewood poem says that elm wood burns like churchyard mold een the very flames are cold.
