I've heard some turkeys but haven't seen any yet. Not sure if I posted about it but we had at least 11 deer cross the back field a few days ago, then they came back and hung around for a bit. It was cool.

Bluebirds have been nesting for the last three weeks. Then had to tolerate or fend off a pair of chickadees, and thought they were successful.

Now a pair of bluebirds are around the nest box, acting like they are going to nest. The male bluebird is seemingly content to flutter and peck on the windows of the my house. Pretty to watch them, just hard to figure them out. Cardinals and goldfinch all around.

Welp, the turkeys showed up in the field a couple hours ago, only 2 that we saw.

Saw the same turkeys from the other day, but opposite side of the road heading down a farm road towards Maine. Border jumpers.  ffcheesy

We have a family of 4-6 crows that hang around. The older adults have built a nest in the spruce trees out behind for years. In the middle of summer you'll hear all the squawking back there. Soon in late summer the babies will appear with momma for scraps.  ffcheesy

A huge murder of crows hung around all winter here feeding in the corn fields.  We see a couple pair of ravens around, but they don't come near the yard often, the crows will put the run to them.

Several red winged black birds at the in-laws feeder today. They've got feeders over their deck that they can watch from their kitchen table, it's a nice setup with big windows and lots of birds.

No sign of any bluebirds yet. I'm thinking Monday, will be sunny and warm.

I had two male Bluebirds in the yard about 3 weeks ago, haven't seen one since, but it won't be long and they'll be back!

Hummingbirds will show up in about another 3-4 weeks!

I have a couple of Tufted Titmouse show up regularly at my birdfeeder, they are a very private/skittish little bird.

The slightest movement or sound in the house, and they take off!

I checked last week and just 5 eggs still in the nest. We had a cold spell last week with nights in the 20's and I was afraid these would not hatch but I checked them this morning and lo and behold there were 5 baby bluebirds looking back at me. I'll get an 78X10 printed and take to my grandkids who were excited to see the eggs 3-4 weeks ago and keep asking about the baby birds. Their job now will be to name them. ffsmiley

This the first bluebird box I put out 4 years ago and it has produced up to one 3 clutches per year including one group of squatters (Barn swallows). Just rough boards but it mimics a woodpecker hole perfectly it seems.

Tree swallows arrived today and took up residence in a nest box. No bluebirds here yet. Next week will be in the 60's, they should be here then.

There has been great horned owls around the last few weeks at night. A few nights ago there was one calling that was pretty loud so I stepped outside expecting to hear it on the edge of the woods but it called again and was behind me on the roof of the house.

I see where a goshawk got himself a grouse the other day. I see some tail feathers and breast feathers under a spruce tree. They usually hunt to woods road nearby. I saw one last winter hunting. I see grouse on the road all the time. Mostly just a single one, but I have seen as many as six in a bunch.

Finally seeing a few Common Flickers around the yard, no Bluebirds, other than the one I saw a few weeks ago.

Saw a few Tree Swallows when I was at my brothers house, none here yet.

I also saw two Humming birds that buzzed his yard a couple times.  Gotta get my feeders out!

Flickers rolled in here this week. The phoebes are busy. Geese are busy to, they fly over the house, been a flock of 40 around here. Seen a few different kinds of ducks I never took the time to ID. I know mallards and black, but other kinds I would have to look up. One has a pretty black and white crown, small duck.

I had a few Tree Swallows on the power lines out front this afternoon.   ffsmiley

I took the time and got three of the Hummingbird feeders hung out today, so I'm ready for whenever they decide to stop in!

The duck with the black and white crown might be a hooded merganser.

I saw a couple bluebirds last week and a pair of geese are back.

We have lots of Tree Swallows buzzing around out there today!

Still waiting for Bluebirds to settle in!

I know they have to eat too, but it ticked me off yesterday when I saw a Kestrel swoop in and snagged a Flicker out of the back yard for lunch!

Been one of those bothering the little birds this morning. The crows put the run to it.

I know it's not for birds, but I got my bat-house up in the gable on the back of the garage, I'm hoping some of them will find it and take up residence!

I also got my Oriole feeder up a couple of days ago!  I've been looking up into the tree tops around the yard, and spotted 3 old Oriole nests, so I'm guessing they like the area and the feed that I put out for them!
