First off :) Hi! It's been a while! I've been working through medical issues and waiting for the spring (which is long since here now) and hoping to get back to milling though I'm a little unsure how much I can do this year.
Anyway, here we go....
I've milled up a fair share of walnut but none that looked like this. I didn't expect to see so much light 'sapwood' vs the typical dark heartwood of walnut. Usually there was a lot more dark heartwood (or at least that's what I though it was) than this. The main beam of this tree was 22" in diameter and the second was slightly smaller though I don't have the size yet.
Is it black walnut? Or perhaps an english? Thoughts?

I think the answer is that this walnut just happens to have a lot of sapwood.
I wonder how it would look leaving it and making a table with live edge slabs.
It is not American Black Walnut.

No? English perhaps?
My sister just reported back that it is an English Walnut. Mystery solved!
That is what I would have said. Can tell for certain when the leaves come out.
