Sawmills and Milling / Re: Whatcha Sawin' 2024 ??

I have said many times here on this forum that all pricing methods are fair as long as both parties understand and agree to them before any sawing starts and as long as the agreed upon pricing is followed.

Most of us, myself included, sell lumber/sawing service for less than one inch lumber the same as if it was one inch. I make sure the customer knows, understands, and agrees to that before sawing thin stuff and I bill accordingly.

I bill my 6/4 lumber as 1.5" when I compute my bf but if I had listed and the customer agreed to a range and I counted it as agreed that would be fair and proper.

Tom, there was no fight, no quibble, no miscommunication, and no need for your explanation.

Peter sells lumber and scales accordingly.  He scales full size as full size and he scales store  dimensional as it actually measures.  He does not sell air, and I fully understand his argument.

I am not selling lumber and I scale my lumber the same regardless of whether it is full size, dimensional, or a variation of both.  I am selling a sawing service, not lumber.

As I stated in Reply #699, this subject has been discussed several times in the past and I was a bit surprised that it came back up.  I answered it again as I did because there are many new members & guest that needs to understand where we are both coming from.  I see no right not wrong, just two different markets; one selling lumber and the other selling a sawing service.

Well I had to search IRT to find out whether I had done a bad thing!!  :wink_2:

Yes, on rare occasions I may have to make an adjustment and maybe make side lumber or a different width from one cant, etc.

I am happy with Lemonade.  ffsmiley

The lever springs for the other valves require the entire valve be removed.  If those valves haven't been removed you may find the line nut below the valves frozen-stuck tight.  I've had to cut/bust these nuts and replace them when they would not turn.  Might be wise to have those on hand if yours are frozen or rounded off.

The spring in the electrical contact section requires the valve be removed. So when replacing either the lever spring or the contact springs the valve will need to be removed.

Parts manual calls out a different valve for the toe boards as you said.  Some revisions used "three way" valves and some used "four way".

If you intend to remove all the valves to replace springs it might be wise to have at least one complete electrical kit on hand just in case there was damage to that component.  You might check the capacitors while you are in there.

Old greenhorn,

I believe you are overreacting and misreading me.  Rude?  Offensive?  I came here for help and insight. For me to offer any help on anything other than color choice and where to plant the bushes would be inappropriate. 600 views and nobody else offered any help. Are you going to chase all of them down and bitch at them for not contributing to MY post?

Exactly how did I offend Jim et al for responding to my previous posts?  I am nothing but grateful for the help I have received, it has helped me progress in an area that I have not tread in before.  I certainly hope that nobody has been offended by my asking for help.

Your perceived obligation to come at me for pleading for help comes off to me as rude and offensive. Internet commentary can be foggy, but you have made it clear to me that you, old greenhorn, are why I will not contribute here and share what I know, however relevant or insightful.

I think you could have come at me differently, and maybe I would decide to stay and contribute. But instead you have accused me of being things that I am not.

As I cannot find any way to delete my account, will one of the adult moderators be kind enough to do it for me.  I'm sorry this has devolved this way.

I have learned quite a lot from this forum, there are a lot of very helpful members. If anyone else has taken offense at my response here, I humbly apologize. But I ask you, put yourself in my shoes.  I have been a member for about six months, and this is the largest thing I have ever designed, by an order of magnitude. I was hoping to benefit from becoming part of this small community, but it is clear now that I am not needed here.

This is from my wife's phone. This is NOT what it looked like in person.

I went and looked at them last night around 11 pm from the shores of a large local lake. They were muted, not as dramatic as I was expecting from all of the forecasts.

I guarantee most of the dramatic pictures you will see are due to cell phone cameras going into automatic night mode. In person they wee underwhelming compared to displays I've seen in the past, but when we took pictures with our phones they were stunning. I told my son, "take another picture so I can see how awesome they are!"😁

What was different was all of the areas they were visible from. It's a fairly common occurrence for the Aurora to be visible from northern MN, but not northern Texas!
