The USDA Forest Service has legislative authority to recruit and fill Permanent (Career-Conditional), and Term Appointments under the USDA Demonstration Project. Under this Project, interested individuals need not have present or previous status as a Federal employee in order to apply.
DUTIES:(The duties described reflect the full performance level of this position)
Participates in, coordinates, and/or manages Forest Service programs and projects.

This position serves as a District Ranger with responsibility for the management of the resources, goods, and services of a designated area on a National Forest. This position is directly responsible for the development, production, conservation, and utilization of the natural resources of forests and associated lands of the District; and the inventory, planning, evaluation, and management of each forest resource including timber, soil, land, water, wildlife and fish habitat, minerals, forage, wilderness and visual areas, and outdoor recreation.

Manages the resources, goods, and services of a designated area on a National Forest with direct responsibility for the development, production, conservation, and utilization of the natural resources of forests and associated lands of the District; and the inventory, planning, evaluation, and management of each forest resource including timber, soil, land, water, wildlife and fish habitat, miners, forage, wilderness and visual areas, and outdoor recreation.

Serves as a key member of the Forest Management Team to formulate plans, policies, and objectives for the Forest. Provides information and recommendations to the Forest Supervisor concerning District programs. Informs and justifies to the Forest Supervisor the implementation and execution of, and amendments to, the District's portion of the Forest Plan.
MINIMUM FEDERAL QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Grade 12: Qualifying experience for the GS-12 level includes one year of specialized experience at least equivalent to the GS-11 level which is in or directly related to the line of work of the position to be filled and which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position.
Grade 13: Qualifying experience for the GS-13 level includes one year of specialized experience at least equivalent to the GS-12 level which is in or directly related to the line of work of the position to be filled and which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position.

Position requires overnight travel 1-5 nights per month.

I can provide further information on these areas to anyone that may be interested. I held the District Ranger position at Richwood West Virginia from 1974-78 and one of my assistants came from and now lives in Deer River on the Chippewa NF. I also was a Staff Officer on the Allegheny NF which included the Marienville RD.
