Well I don't want to be the bearer of bad news but Last Saturday I had an Asian Longhorn Beetle land on my front porch while I was taking a short water break. I caught it and compared it to my magnet on the fridge. It was the same thing. I notified the USDA and haven't heard anything since. I have it in a jar in the freezer now. I haven't seen any damage yet though. But I know it is bound to happen if I found one.

We were lucky again this year because of extreme cold weather. We had 4 weeks of -45to-55 weather and it is enough to kill the larva of the spruce beetle. It hasn't stopped them but it sure has sent their numbers way down.  I have had fresh cut spruce sitting here for over 3 months and have not seen one yet. ::)

theCfarm, have a look out for the native fir sawflies. They are spraying them this year in NB with a virus on 450,000 acres of crown lands.

The bug is native, but have been experiencing high numbers the last few years, Newfoundland began spraying in 2009 for them. They eat spruce to.
