Not to worry, this shouldn't stir up much controversy. ;D  This is just a commentary on our local political scene.

Our county has a reputation as a hotbed of political corruption. Our jail is a very important institution, as most of our political leaders are in there.  The former Sheriff, who retired this time around, had complained that the jail was $100,000 short of what it needed to operate properly. He took this complaint to the County Commission, which was just a short walk down the cell row. The CC considered his plight carefully, and determined that they had to correct the budget to cover this grievous shortfall. Their "best effort" concluded that they should take $100,000 from the budget of the Senior Citizen's Center and give it to the Sheriff, so he could keep the lights on.(It was in their own best interest)  So, they did that, and nobody heard much more about it until the new Sheriff took office. He did a quick review of the budget, and announced, last week, that he was giving the 100 grand back to the Senior Citizen's Center. It seem's that he was able to balance his budget by firing the auditing firm that was charging $100,000 to tell them that they were $100,000 short! :D :D :D  He cut a check for $75,000, and promised to make up the rest by having an early "lights out" in the County Commission cell. ;D

In other news;  One of the "cities" that have sprung up since the advent of the Government Grant, has been having City Manager problems.  All the managers of the past few years have either been sent to prison, or fired for an unwillingness to share. They have now hired a new manager with loads of experience. He was a County Commissioner in Tallahassee until he was fired by the Governor after being arrested for "indiscretions of the flesh" in County offices. Apparently, his interns were not as willing as some of those in Washington.  He got aquitted of those charges and managed to get elected again. Then he was fired by the Governor again, as well as losing his day job, for stealing funds from his employer, The State of Florida!  Sound's like the boy might have found the ideal job. ;D
