Title: Deodar or Lebanon Cedar
Post by: tlooney on April 03, 2008, 01:26:11 AM
Has anyone sawed any of this into lumber and what is a use for it?  I was given two big trees  of this species and was just wondering what to do with it.

thanks Tlooney

Well was cutting 1x's today on this cedar and zinged through a couple a nails which stripped all the carbide off my blade :( . Replaced the blade with another and lowered the frame to take another 1x pass, all the time thinking "I should hike the ten minutes to the barn and get the metal detector". Of course not needing or wanting the exercise I opted to not get the metal detector. Well that cost me another blade ::) so the rest of that slab got drug off the mill and out to the firewood pile. Funny thing was the second metal was in the heart of the log not the outside like the first.

Also I was informed when I picked these logs up that they had never ever been nailed on or anything like that, these were the pride of the previous owner and he would not do that to his trees, blah blah etc, etc.

Live and learn.
