Hey, he asked for thoughts and that's the first thing that popped into my head. :D

I know Trust me i have had to think long and hard about this i have run jreds and huskys for my entire forestry career .30 years.Just thought i might try the other side for once . Trust me it makes me feel a little icky inside after all the slammin i have done over the years against them :D.But to be honest i havent found the huskys standing up very well lately my dealer has closed up shop and it was a choice between a still or an echo .and i have not even seen any one up here run one of those so i have nothing to go on .

Been said here 100s of times, the best saw comes from the best dealer.

JohnG28

I haven't run a 261 but I like all my Stihls!  8)  I've heard the CM model with electronic engine management is the way to go on this model, along with the 362 and 441s as well.

Any echo dealers near you? Or Dolkita?  Both great options, if available.

I had a good dealer. They sold out to another place. Not so good. I did find another good dealer to work on my husky. BUT he only sells Sthils and Jreds. BUT he's up there in age. I would buy a Sthil. I had an 032 way back.

What he said. Brand loyalty is fine for internet chatter, but in the real world, dealer service rules. I'm happy with my MS261 w/standard carb.

She is all over but the crying switched to the stihl .Dealer even dropped 50 when he found out i was switching from husky .Not a lot but something .

furltech

Well she ran for the first day.

JohnG28

What do you think? Run well? Feel as good/better/worse than your Husky?  ???

i liked it .few little things but they are just part of the learning curve and it is my first saw with auto tune still on the fence about that .It did not get a big work out today as it was hot and i dont function well in the heat  8)

JohnG28

Nice. Hope it does you well!  :)

I will say that my first two forays with Stihl did not leave me all warm and fuzzy but I have to admit that i recently bought a used MS361 and am well enough pleased with it so far. Starts well and runs well. The first MS361 I bought flooded every time I tried to start it and after taking it back to the dealer 3 times in three days fo rthe same issue I asked for my money back. Never even ran a ful tank through it.  A new saw should at least start. The other one was an MS180 that never satisfied me and seems a little cheaply made. I know it's a small saw and I bought because of that, but too many things have broke on it with out being abused. The two of them kinda soured me, but I may yet change my mind. I still like my Huskies though.

furltech,
I'd discount a 261 m-tronic for you if you were closer, just to hook you. I brought one home to play with last winter, told the wife, (business manager), to right it off as a demo as I plan on keeping it!

well i could be wrong on my terminology there, i looked at so much stuff .i will have to go back and see what they were calling it .all i know is i am unable to do anything to the carb it is all set with some comp tool they have at the shop .Not sure what all it will change but if i like the saw and over time if the software comes down in price i would consider getting it myself. It is a ms 261 c-m

JohnG28

Yep, the cm model has "auto-tune," or m-tronic.  That's why they have to plug it into a computer to program.
