On my old and now retired cant hooks, I had to heat and bend every hook to get them to catch a log.   I had one arched for large logs and the others for medium logs.

Ok, just thought I would throw the question out there, thought maybe it was just a supply and demand issue. It has been my experience that even with the "more open arc" , the hook works well on small logs where the bite is not as much an issue as with the larger logs. Just a little aggravating when you are waiting for the guy with the other hook to finally get a bite. Not to mention what it does to his confidence.

I have a feeling that they have worked closley with the bandsaw industry to build a better hook. ...

About as close as you can get ;D.

Once upon a time the owners of a sawmill business were fed up with the *#&^@( cant hooks they were using. "We can make a better cant hook than this", they said. So they did. Now they own a cant hook business and someone else owns their former sawmill business.

In my OP I indicated that my "prongs" were too pointy and probably would need shortening.  That indeed was the case.  They worked wonderfully well for moving logs, but were too long.

The width now gives me the stability that I wanted for adjusting logs without unnecessarily penetrating and hanging up.
